The GPS III Pilot can navigate to a destination using any of three different methods:GOTO— lets you select a waypoint as your destination and quickly plot a directcourse from present position to that waypoint.TracBack— allows you to retrace your path using the track log automaticallystored in the receiver’s memory. This eliminates the need to store waypoints alongthe way. (See page 64 for more information about TracBack.)Routes— allows you to manually create a sequence of intermediate waypointswhich lead you to your final destination. The GPS III Pilot will store up to 20reversible routes, with up to 30 waypoints in each route.GOTO NavigationThe easiest way to select your destination is by using the GOTO key. The GOTOkey can be used by itself, after highlighting a waypoint name on a list, or afterdesignating a position on the map display.To GOTO a waypoint:1. Press GOTO/NRST. The GOTO page shows a series of file tabs for ‘Recent’ waypoints,‘User’ waypoints or ‘Spell n Find’.2. To GOTO a recently used waypoint, select the ‘Recent’ tab, highlight the desired way-point and press ENTER.3. To GOTO a user waypoint, select the ‘User’ tab, highlight the desired waypointand press ENTER.4. To enter the identifier of the destination waypoint, select the ‘Spell n Find’ tab andhighlight the waypoint identifier (name) field. Press ENTER and use the rocker keypadto enter the identifier of the desired waypoint—UP/DOWN to change each characterand RIGHT to move to the next character. Press ENTER to confirm the selection.To GOTO a waypoint, pressGOTO/NRST and highlightthe waypoint identifier field atthe top of the page.Press ENTER and use therocker keypad to enter theidentifier of the destinationwaypoint.
