Clean the unit housing using a cloth lightlydampened with a mild detergent solution and then wipedry. Avoid chemical cleaners and solvents that may damageplastic components. Do not apply cleaner to electricalcontacts on the back of the unit.The 172C has an anti-reflective coating on the lens that canbe damaged by ammonia based cleaners. When cleaningthe lens use a soft lint free cloth. Don’t apply the cleanerdirectly to the lens, apply a small amount of cleaner to thecloth and then wipe the lens.Storage - Do not store the unit where exposure to tempera-ture extremes may occur (see left), as permanent damagemay result. User information, such as waypoints, routes,etc. is retained in the unit’s memory, without the need forexternal power. It is always a good practice to back upimportant user data by manually recording it or download-ing it to a PC (see pg. 72).Water Immersion -The GPSMAP 172/172C iswaterproof to IEC Standard 60529 IPX7. It can withstandimmersion in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes. Prolongedsubmersion can cause damage to the unit.
