The GPS receiver can be used for guidance priorto reaching the final approach fix, but once there, the proper frequency mustbe selected on the VLOC window (right side of screen) and the CDI output setto “VLOC”.2 NM15 NM1.2 NM 1.2 NMMANUALFAFVLOCVLOCGPSGPSAuto Switch to VLOCwithin this areaThe GTN 7XX can be set to automaticallyswitch the external CDI output from GPS toVLOC as you intercept the final approachcourse (if used with a KAP140/KFC225autopilot, you will need to manually enableoutputs. See instructions in the “EnablingAutopilot Outputs for the King KAP140/KFC225” section). When the ILS approachis activated and the correct ILS frequency isactive in the VLOC window, the GTN 7XXautomatically switches to VLOC within 1.2NM left or right of the final approach course. This switch can take place anywhere from2.0 to 15.0 NM from the FAF.The illustration shows multiple locationsalong the approach path and the CDIselection that you can expect: GPS or VLOC.Within the area of the shaded box, theautomatic switch from GPS to VLOC shouldoccur.NOTE: If you attempt to intercept the approach course at a distance lessthan 2.0 NM from the FAF, the GTN 7XX does not automatically switchthe CDI to VLOC. In this case, touch the CDI key to manually switch fromGPS to VLOC.190-01007-03-Final.indb 18 7/9/2015 2:07:19 PM
