Rino ® 120 Owner’s Manual 69U NIT OPERATION > SATELLITE PAGEWAASThe Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) capabilityproduces a more accurate position fix. When enabled(GPS set to Normal and WAAS set to Enabled throughthe System Setup Page; also the interface must be set tosomething other than RTCM mode), this feature searchesfor WAAS satellites near your location and then receivesdata for correcting differentials in the GPS satellitesignals. WAAS satellite numbers begin at number 33or above and are displayed on the Satellite Page. Whendifferential correction data has been received for GPSsatellites (numbers 32 or below), a D displays in thesignal bar. It is helpful to orient the unit antenna towardthe WAAS satellite shown in the skyview. To learn moreabout the WAAS System, refer to the Federal AviationAdministration Web site (http://gps.faa.gov/). Becausethe Rino 120 relies on satellite signals to provide youwith navigational guidance, the unit’s view of the skydetermines how fast you achieve navigational status. GPSsignals do not travel through heavy objects or people. Forbest results, keep the unit in clear view of the sky. TheWAAS system is only available in the U.S.Satellite Page using WAASSatellite StrengthAt least three satellite signals are needed to determineyour location; otherwise the unit displays a “PoorSatellite Reception” message with four options:Use with GPS Off—Select this option if you wantGPS off.New Location—Select this option if you have movedmore than 600 miles (from where you last used the unit).
