38In various foreign countries, the specifications for power supplies are subject to incompatiblenorms. Therefore it is possible that power supplies in foreign countries do not meet the require-ments for safe operation of the appliance. Thus, before operating the appliance abroad,ensure that safe operation is possible.• Do not use any desk top multi socket outlet, external switching device, or remote controlsystems, or extension cord. Utilization of external switching devices (such as a timer or circuitsthat can regularly switch the appliance on and off), will lead to possible hazard of the appli-ance starting by itself due to inadvertent resetting of the overload protector of the motor.• Always handle power cords with care. The pins of the power plug must be smooth andclean. Always completely unwind the power cord before use. Do not place the appliance on apower cord. Power cords may never be knotted, twisted, pulled, strained or squeezed. Do notlet the plug or power cord hang over the edge of the table or counter. The power cord maynot touch hot surfaces or sharp edges. Ensure that no one will pull the appliance by the powercord. Take care not to entangle in the power cord. Always grasp the plug to disconnect thepower cord. Do not touch the appliance or power plug with wet hands when the applianceis connected to the power supply.• Do not allow any liquids to run into the ventilation slots at the rear of the power base, theoperating elements or the drive shaft coupling within the power base. Do not pour or spillany liquids on the power base or power cord, or let any liquids run down the exterior of thejug with the jug on the power base. Do not drip or spill any liquids on the power base orpower cord. Do not place the jug on the power base, when the exterior of the jug is wet ornot clean to avoid risk of overheating, electric shock, or fire. Do not immerse the applianceor power cord in water or other liquids. Do not place the appliance on wet surfaces. Whenliquids overflowed or are spilled on the power base or power cord, immediately unplug theappliance. Thereafter, clean the appliance and let it dry for at least 1 day. Additionally, you can process hot food. Doing so, adhere to the followingprecautions to avoid scalds and damage.• Due to the contact with hot food, steam and condensate, the jug, lid, and measuring cupcan get hot during operation and thereafter.• Do not process boiling hot liquids to avoid boiling over. Allow temperature to drop beforeputting into the jug for operation. Always be careful if hot liquid is poured into the jug, as itcould eject out of the jug due to sudden steaming.• When processing hot liquids, always ensure that the measuring cap is in place. This willprotect you from splashing of hot liquids and excessive amounts of steam during operation.• Do not put the jug in extremes of heat or cold, for example placing an ice-cold jug into hotwater, or vice versa. Otherwise, the jug could burst.• Even with the lid properly closed, steam could escape from the lid during operation andshortly thereafter. This holds especially for the ventilation slits in the lid.
