19ModeUse the Right button to toggle between three modes: Off, Continuous, and Triggered. When Continuous mode is selected, the enabled “Channels to Send” (see main menu) willbe streamed continuously to the remote server. If Triggered mode is selected, a connection to the remote computer is maintained, andheartbeat signals are sent to the server every few seconds. If a Level or STA/LTA triggerprocess is enabled and detects an event, a trigger packet will be immediately sent to theremote server. The server will then request the waveform data files stored on the Gecko’sSD card as they become available. The time period before or after the trigger time to beextracted is defined by the user in the remote server software. When telemetry mode is set to Off the Gecko will not attempt to start a serial connection.DeviceThis setting defines the type of communication device connected to the Gecko’scommunication port. Use the Right button to cycle through “Ethernet” or “3G modem” or“Serial” (for direct USB cable) if you have one of these devices connected (available forseparate purchase). See Appendix C for information on Ethernet adaptor configuration.3G modem SettingsIf you have selected “3G modem” as your communication Device, use the Left button toexit, then re-enter the menu and you will see several additional settings. These settingsonly relate to the Telit 3G modem which the Gecko configures using AT commands.TCP Socket PortTo start data telemetry, the Gecko needs to establish a socket connection to a remotecomputer using TCP/IP, so a port on the computer needs to be assigned for thiscommunication link. The default port is set to “58772”, but this can be changed if required.Server IP/DomainThe data reception application will be running on a remote computer, so for the Gecko to beable to find it we need to define this computer’s IP address or domain name. The normaltext entry method is used to define this address after you enter the menu.Carrier APNThe 3G modem also requires the cellular carrier’s APN (Access Point Name) to be able toconnect to the Internet. This is normally “internet” or “carrier.internet” (e.g. telstra.internetfor Australia’s main carrier) and can be modified within the Gecko using the normal textentry method.
