22The Root DirectoryThe root directory contains a folder called “data” that contains all of the seismic waveformfiles, and a folder called “histogram” which contains daily files that record data values eachminute. The top level folder also contains a number of other files:• log.txt (and older log_0.txt … log_9.txt): a simple text files that record severalparameters for instrument performance analysis, such as history of restarts and anysystem exceptions. Up to 10 past text files are stored, with a new file started onpower-up if the current log file is too big• settings.ss: also a text file, containing all of the current configuration settings ofthe Gecko. It is updated each time the user changes a setting.• user-settings.dat: the current configuration of the Gecko as written by theLoad/Save Settings function described earlier• trig.txt: a list of times and information when a trigger process was activatedThe Data FolderThe top level folder named “data” contains subdirectories named by date to allow you toquickly find the files you’re looking for. The first level down is the Year folder, whichcontains Month folders, which in turn contain Day folders, and the Hour folders are the nextand final folder level. Each hour folder will contain MiniSEED format data files, each filebeing one minute long. Each hour folder also contains one or more files ending in “.ss”which contains information about the recorder parameters which include the correctionfactors that are needed for analysis of the data.
