Service Manual May 2018Quarterly Maintenance Procedures30 GR ™ • QS™R • QS™ W Part No. 1275811GTQ-12Visual Inspection of the HydraulicOilGenie specifications require that this procedure beperformed quarterly.Replacement or testing of the hydraulic oil isessential for good machine performance andservice life. Dirty oil and a clogged suction strainermay cause the machine to perform poorly andcontinued use may cause component damage.Extremely dirty conditions may require oil changesto be performed more often. For hydraulic oilspecifications, Refer to Specifications, HydraulicSpecifications.Note: Before replacing the hydraulic oil, the oil maybe tested by an oil distributor for specific levels ofcontamination to verify that changing the oil isnecessary. Replace the oil when it fails the test.Refer to Maintenance Procedure, Test or Replacethe Hydraulic Oil.1 Collect a sample of hydraulic oil and place in aclear container. Visually inspect the hydraulicoil for the following:• Color: oil should be a clear, light-honeycolored• Appearance, oil should be clear and notcloudy or visibly distorts the view throughthe sight glass or container• Contains no particles, foreign objects, orother contamination• The hydraulic oil can be inspected by smell(can smell “hot” but not “burnt”) or rubbingbetween fingers (should feel viscous andfree of any rough feel due to particles)If the hydraulic oil passes all of the aboveinspections, continue the scheduledmaintenance intervals. If the hydraulic oil fails any of the aboveinspections, the hydraulic oil must be tested byan oil distributor or replaced.Note: If the hydraulic oil was not replaced at orbefore the 2000 hour maintenance interval, the oilmust be tested every quarter by an oil distributoruntil the oil fails the test and is replaced. After theoil has been replaced, continue the scheduledquarterly maintenance inspection.Note: When replacing the hydraulic oil, it isrecommended that all hydraulic filters be replacedat the same time.
