Service and Repair Manual April 2017Boom Components32 GTH-1056 Part No. 12781451-4Boom Extension CylinderHow to Remove the ExtensionCylinderNote: When removing a hose assembly or fitting,the O-ring (if equipped) on the fitting and/or hoseend must be replaced. All connections must betorqued to specification during installation. Refer toSpecifications, Hydraulic Hose and Fitting TorqueSpecifications.1 Raise the boom to a horizontal position.2 Tag, disconnect and plug the hydraulic hosesat the boom extension cylinder manifold. Capthe fittings.Bodily injury hazard. Sprayinghydraulic oil can penetrate andburn skin. Loosen hydraulicconnections very slowly to allowthe oil pressure to dissipategradually. Do not allow oil tosquirt or spray.Component damage hazard.Hoses can be damaged if theyare kinked or pinched.3 Attach a lifting strap from an overhead crane tothe center point of the boom extensioncylinder. Support the cylinder. Do not applyany lifting pressure.4 Remove the extension cylinder support loopfrom the underside of the boom.Note: The extension cylinder support loop islocated at the fork end of the boom.5 Remove the fasteners securing the extensioncylinder pivot pins to the boom.6 Use a soft metal drift to remove both pivot pins.Remove the cylinder from the machine.Crushing hazard. The boom willfall if not properly supportedwhen the pivot pins are removedfrom the machine.Note: During removal, the overhead crane strap willneed to be adjusted for proper balancing.
