September 2016 Service ManualChecklist C ProceduresPart No. 115411 Super Tower 15Checklist C Procedur esC-1 Inspec t the Mast Ass embly for W earC-1Inspect the Mast Assembly forWearGenie specifications require that this procedure beperformed every 1000 hours or annually,whichever comes first.Detection of excessive or unusual wear in the mastassembly is essential for safe machine operation.An unsafe working condition exists if the mastassembly has excessive wear and/or does notoperate smoothly, free of hesitation and binding.1 Attach a lifting strap from an overhead craneor similar lifting device to the lifting point on thetop of the mast. Rotate the carriage hold-downbar over the carriage and operate the winch toapply tension to the lifting cable.2 Lift the machine slightly with the overheadcrane and guide it onto a suitable structurecapable of supporting it.Crushing hazard. The machinewill fall if not properly supportedby the overhead crane.3 Lower the top of the mast onto the suitablestructure.4 Attach a lifting strap from an overhead craneto the base of the machine.5 Lift the base with the overhead crane, until themast is level and place another suitablestructure under the mast.6 Lower the base end of the machine.7 Rotate the mast assembly until the carriage ison top.8 Visually inspect the top of each column forclearance between the roller wheel and theadjacent column surface.Result: There should be a gap of less than0.062 inch / 1.57 mm between the roller wheeland the column.Note: If the mast inspection results in ameasurement that is not within specification, SeeRepair Procedure,How to Disassemble the MastAssembly.9 Visually inspect the bottom of each column forclearance between the roller wheel and theadjacent column surface.Result: There should be a gap of less than0.062 inch / 1.57 mm between the roller wheeland the column.Note: If the mast inspection results in ameasurement that is not within specification, referto Repair Procedure,How to Disassemble the MastAssembly.10 Grasp the bottom of the carriage and lift itapproximately 12 inches / 30.5 cm, thenrelease the carriage.Result: The carriage should stop within 5 to8 inches / 12.7 to 20.3 cm and the safetybrake should engage.Crushing hazard. Do not standdirectly under the carriage orload handling attachment.
