123Appendix E CablesThe H3C SR6604 and SR6608 support various types of MPUs and interface modules. The port typesvary by the MPU and interface module model. Use dedicated cables to connect the ports of differenttypes.Table 55 CablesCable Applicable port type DescriptionEthernet twisted pair cable RJ-45 Ethernet port Connects the RJ-45 Ethernet port ofthe router for data transmission.Optical fiber SFP port Connects the fiber port of the routerfor data transmission.E1 interface cable E1 interface Connects the E1 interface of therouter for data transmission.T1 interface cable T1 interface Connects the T1 interface of therouter for data transmission.CE3/CT3 interface cable CE3/CT3 interface Connects the CE3/CT3 interface ofthe router for data transmission.Serial port cable Serial port Connects the serial port of therouter for data transmission.Ethernet twisted pair cableIntroductionAn Ethernet twisted pair cable consists of four pairs of insulated copper wires twisted together. Everywire uses a different color, and has a diameter of about 1 mm (0.04 in). A pair of twisted copper cablescan cancel the electromagnetic radiation of each other, and reduce interference of external sources. AnEthernet twisted pair cable mainly transmits analog signals and is advantageous in transmitting dataover shorter distances. It is the commonly used transmission media of the Ethernet. The maximumtransmission distance of the Ethernet twisted pair cable is 100 m (328.08 ft). To extend the transmissiondistance, you can connect two twisted pair cable segments with a repeater. At most four repeaters canbe added, which means five segments can be joined together to provide a transmission distance of 500m (1640.42 ft).Ethernet twisted pair cables can be classified into category 3, category 4, category 5, category 5e,category 6, and category 7 cables based on performance. In LANs, category 5, category 5e, andcategory 6 are commonly used.Table 56 Description of commonly used Ethernet twisted pair cablesType DescriptionCategory 5 Suitable for data transmission at a maximum speed of 100 MbpsCategory 5e Suitable for data transmission at a maximum speed of 1000 Mbps
