For prerecordedprograms, program dialogue can be arrangedinto captions in advance. Its possible to caption alive program by using a process called real-timecaptioning, which creates captions instantly.Real-time captioning is normally done by professional•reporters using a machine shorthand system andcomputer for translation into English. Captioning isan effective system for the hearing-impaired, and itcan also aid in teaching language skills.In ATV mode CCD function allows you to configure•the way you choose to view the digital captioning(Off, CC 1, CC 2, CC 3, CC 4, Text 1, Text 2, Text 3 orText 4).CAPTIONYThe term for the words that scroll across the bottomof the TV screen; usually the audio portion of theprogram provided for the hearing impaired.TEXTYThe term for the words that appear in a large blackframe and almost cover the entire screen; usuallymessages provided by the broadcaster.In DTV mode allows you to configure the way you•choose to view the digital captioning (Off, service 1,service 2, service 3, service 4, service 5 or service 6).Select one of the digital service channels made•available by the caption provider.There are 6 standard services. Service 1 is designated•as the Primary Caption Service. This service containsthe verbatim, or near-verbatim captions for theprimary language being spoken in the accompanyingprogram audio. Service 2 is designated as theSecondary Language Service. This service containscaptions in a secondary language which aretranslations of the captions in the primary CaptionService. The other service subchannels are not pre-assigned. It is up to the discretion of the individualcaption provider to utilize the remaining servicechannels.NoteThe captions do not always use correct spellingRand grammar. Not all TV programs and productcommercials are made for broadcast with ClosedCaption information included. Refer to your area’sTV program listings for the TV channels and timesof Closed Caption shows.
