33ENGLISHMULTIROOM OPERATIONtape recordingIn normal operation, the audio or video source selected for listening throughthe AVR is sent to the record outputs. This means that any program youare watching or listening to may be recorded simply by placing machinesconnected to the outputs for Analog Outputs 3 or Video 1 Outputs P7 inthe record mode. When a digital audio recorder is connected to the Coaxial Digital Output A,you are able to record the digital signal using a CD-R, MiniDisc or other digitalrecording system.NOTES:The digital outputs are active only when a digital signal is present, and•they do not convert an analog input to a digital signal, or change theformat of the digital signal (e.g. Dolby Digital to PCM or vice versa). Inadditon, the digital recorder must be compatible with the output signal. For example, the PCM digital output from a CD player may be recorded ona CD-R or MiniDisc, but Dolby Digital or DTS signals may not.To make an analog recording from a digital source is possible, but only•from a PCM source (not Dolby Digital or DTS) and correctly only with"Surround Off" mode (with any Surround mode only the L/R front signalswill be fed to the record outputs).memory BackupThis product is equipped with a memory backup system that preservestuner presets and system configuration information if the unit is turnedoff completely, accidentally unplugged or subjected to a power outage. This memory will last for approximately two weeks, after which time allinformation must be reentered.multIroomThe AVR is fully equipped to operate as the control center for a completemultiroom system that is capable of sending one source to a second zone inthe house while separate source is listened to in the main room. In addition toproviding for control over the selection of the remote source and its volume, the AVR offers a comprehensive range of options for powering the speakers inthe second zone. When the main room system is configured for 5.1 operation, the Surround•Back Left/Right amplifier channels may be used to power the remote zoneso that no additional amplifiers are required. In addition, the AVR includes a remote IR sensor input so that remote controlcommands from the main remote (when set to Zone 2 with the slide SwitchX) may be transmitted to the unit, while standard IR input/output jacksallow the remote zone’s commands to be sent to compatible IR-controlledsource devices.InstallationAlthough simple remote room systems may be installed by the averagedo-it-yourself hobbyist, the complexity of your multizone/multiroom systeminvolves running wires inside of walls where the services of a specially trainedinstaller may be required. Regardless of who does the work, please rememberthat local building codes may govern in-wall electrical work, including properspecification of any wiring used and the way in which it is connected. You areresponsible for making certain that all Multiroom installation work is doneproperly and in compliance with all applicable codes and regulations. For standard installations, follow the instructions shown on page 16-18 forthe connection of speaker wire and IR remote wiring to the AVR.For installations where the Surround Back Left/Right amplifier channels areused to power the remote zone, make certain that the system is configured forthat type of operation, as shown below.Multiroom SetupOnce the audio and IR link connections have been made, the AVR needs tobe configured for multiroom operation using the steps below. Press the AVRbutton W to bring the main menu to the screen. Press the KL Button Funtil the Zone 2 menu line is highlighted in blue. Press the OK button V toenter the menu.Figure 16
