16The Zone II remote is a simplified device for use in the remote roomof a multiroom system with an IR receiver connected to the MultiroomIR Input or an A-BUS device. It may be used to control the power,volume and mute functions for the remote zone; select a source inputfor the remote zone and control a compatible Harman Kardon DVD, CDor tape player that is connected to one of the AVR’s Remote IR Outputs.The Zone II remote may also be used in the main listening room todirectly control the AVR 350 and Harman Kardon DVD, CD or tapeplayers. In that case the power, volume and mute controls will affectonly the main listening area.The Zone II remote requires two AAA batteries (included) that areinstalled in the battery compartment on the back of the remote. Gentlypull down on the tab at the top of the battery compartment cover andpull the cover off the remote. Make sure to observe proper polarity bymatching the + and – symbols on the remote to the correspondingsymbols printed inside the compartment.IR Transmitter: This button-shaped lens emits infrared codes whenbuttons on the remote are pressed. Make sure it is pointing toward theIR receiver when in the remote room, or the component being operatedwhen used in the main listening room.Power Off: Press this button to turn off the AVR 350. The Zone IIremote has no Power On Button, since the AVR turns on its multiroomsystem automatically when any of the Input Selectors is pressed, evenif the AVR itself is in Standby mode. When in the main listening room,press any Input Selector or the AVR Selector to turn on the AVR 350,as you would when using the main system remote.Mute: Press this button to mute the AVR 350’s remote zone speakerstemporarily. To end the muting, press this button or adjust the volume,or turn off the multiroom system. Unless the remote is used in the mainlistening area, only the remote zone will be affected.AVR Selector: Press this button to switch the remote to the AVRdevice mode. It will also turn on the multiroom system if it was off.Input Selectors: Press one of these buttons to select a sourcedevice for the remote zone. It will also turn on the multiroom systemand switch the remote to operate the source device. You may select adifferent source device than is in use in the main room. If you select thesame source as the main room, then any commands sent to the source,such as changing radio stations or skipping tracks on a CD, will affectboth zones.AM/FM/XM Radio: Press this button once to select the tuner asthe source for the remote zone, which will also turn on the multiroomsystem. The last-used band will be active. Press the button repeatedlyto switch to the desired band. In order to listen to XM Radio, you musthave purchased and activated an XM antenna module and subscribedto the XM Radio service. Visit www.xmradio.com for more information.Preset Up/Down – Track Skip: When the tuner has been selectedas the source, these buttons may be used to scroll through the radiostations previously stored as presets, as described in the Using the Tunersection. When a CD or DVD player or an iPod docked in The Bridge isin use, these buttons may be used to skip forward or backward throughthe tracks or chapters on a disc.Tuning Up/Down – Fast Play: When the tuner has been selectedas the source, these buttons may be used to tune a radio station. Theywill function in auto or manual tuning mode, depending on the currentstatus of the AVR. It is not possible to change the tuning mode from theremote room using the Zone II remote. When a CD or DVD player, tapedeck or an iPod docked in The Bridge is in use, these buttons may beused to fast-play forward or backward within a track.Play, Stop, Pause: These buttons have no effect on the AVR, butmay be used to operate many source devices.Disc Skip Up/Down: These buttons have no effect on the AVRor a single-disc DVD or CD player, but may be used with some discchangers to skip to another loaded disc.Volume Controls: Press these buttons to raise or lower the volumein the remote zone.ZONE II REMOTE CONTROL FUNCTIONS
