OperationBasic OperationOnce you have completed the setup andconfiguration of your new receiver, it issimple to operate and enjoy. The follow-ing instructions will provide the stepsneeded to enjoy the AVR35:• When using the AVR35 for the firsttime, it is necessary to press the MainPower button 1 on the front panel toturn the unit on. This places the unit in astandby mode, as indicated by the ambercolor of the Power Indicator 3. Oncethe unit is in standby, you may begin alistening session by pressing the SystemPower Control 2 on the front panel orthe Power button d on the remote.Note that the Power Indicator 3 willturn green. This will turn the unit on andreturn it to the input source that was lastused. The unit may also be turned onfrom standby by pressing any of theSource Selector buttons on the remotel or front panel 9 ) ! @ #.To turn the unit off at the end of a listen-ing session simply press the SystemPower Control 2 on the front panelor the Power button d on the remote.Power to any equipment plugged intothe rear panel Switched AC Outlet¤ will be shut off and the PowerIndicator 3 will turn amber.When the remote is used to turn the unit“off” it is actually placing the system in astandby mode, as indicated by the ambercolor of the Power Indicator 3.When you will be away from home foran extended period of time it is alwaysa good idea to completely turn theunit off using the front panel MainPower Switch 1. Note that all presetmemories are lost if the unit is leftturned off with the Main PowerSwitch 1 for more than two weeks.Source Selection• To select a source at any time, pressany of the Source Selector buttonson the remote l or front panel 9 )! @ #.• The front panel Video 3 Inputs 8may be used to connect a device such asa video game or camcorder to your homeentertainment system on a temporarybasis.• When an audio source is selected thelast video input used remains routed tothe Video Outputs 1 ¢ and TVMonitor Output fi. This permitssimultaneous viewing and listening todifferent sources.• During a listening session you maywish to adjust the Bass 5 and Treble6 controls to suit your listening tastes.• Adjust the volume to a comfortablelevel using the front panel VolumeControl Ù or remote VolumeUp/Down buttons.• To temporarily silence all speakeroutputs press the Mute button ` Û.This will cut the output to all speakers,but it will not effect any recording ordubbing that may be in progress. Whenthe system is muted the MUTE indicatorA will light in the InformationDisplay ˝. Press the Mute button `Û again to return to normal operation.• For private listening, plug the 1/4"stereo phone plug from a pair of stereoheadphones into the front panelHeadphone jack 4.• When a Video Input source is selectedthe video signal for that input will berouted to the TV Monitor Video Outputjack fi and will be viewable on a TV mon-itor connected to the AVR35. Make certainthat your TV is set to the proper input toview the signal.• To program the AVR35 for automaticturn off, press the Sleep button e $.Each press of the button will increase thetime before shut down in the followingsequence:The sleep time will be displayed in theInformation Display and it will countdown until the time has elapsed.When the programmed time has elapsedthe unit will automatically turn off.Note that the front panel display will dimto one half brightness when the Sleepfunction is programmed. To cancel theSleep function, press the Sleep buttone $ until the information displayreturns to normal brightness and theSleep indicator numbers disappear.Surround Mode SelectionOne of the most important features ofthe AVR35 is its ability to reproduce a fullmultichannel surround sound field fromDolby Digital sources, analog matrixsurround encoded programs and stan-dard stereo programs.
