OperationWhen a PCM source is playing, the PCMindicator I will light, and the MainInformation Display will show the inputsource and the digital type. During PCMplayback you may select any surroundmode except Dolby Digital.Tuner OperationThe AVR45’s tuner is capable of tuningAM, FM and FM Stereo broadcast stations.Stations may be tuned manually, or theymay be stored as favorite station presetsand recalled from a 30 position memory.Station Selection1. Press the AM/FM button $ k toselect the tuner as an input.2. Press the AM/FM button $ k againto switch between AM and FM so that thedesired frequency band is selected.3. Press the Tune Mode button * qto select manual or automatic tuning.When the AUTO indicator O is illumin-ated in the Main Information Display thetuner will only stop at those stations thathave a strong enough signal to bereceived with acceptable quality.When the MONO indicator Q is illumin-ated, the tuner is in a manual mode andwill stop at each frequency increment inthe selected band.4. To select stations press the Tuningbutton % t. When the AUTO indicatorO is illuminated each press will causethe tuner to search for the next highestor lowest frequency station that has anacceptable signal. When tuning FM sta-tions in the Auto mode, the tuner willonly select Stereo stations. To tune to thenext station, press the button again. Ifthe MONO indicator Q is illuminated,tap the Tuning button % t toadvance one frequency increment at atime, or press and hold it to locate a spe-cific station. When the TUNED indicatorR illuminates, the station is properlytuned and should be heard with clarity.5. Stations may also be tuned directlyby pressing the Direct button m, andthen pressing the Numeric Keys lthat correspond to the station’s frequency.The desired station will automaticallybe tuned.NOTE: When the FM reception of astation is weak, audio quality will beincreased by switching to Mono modeby pressing the Tune Mode button *q until the STEREO indicator Pgoes out.Preset TuningUp to 30 stations may be stored in theAVR45’s memory for easy recall using thefront panel controls or the remote.To enter a station to the memory, firsttune the station using the steps outlinedabove. Then:1. Press the Memory button n onthe remote. Note that MEMORY indicatorN will illuminate and flash in theInformation Display.2. Within five seconds, press theNumeric Keys l corresponding tothe location where you wish to store thisstation’s frequency.3. Repeat the process after tuning anyadditional stations to be preset.Recalling Preset Stations• To manually select a station previouslyentered in the preset memory, press theNumeric Keys l that correspond tothe desired station’s memory location.• To manually tune through the list ofstored preset stations one by one, pressthe Preset buttons & s on the frontpanel or remote.• To automatically scan through the sta-tions entered in the preset memory, pressthe Preset Scan button ^ on the frontpanel. The tuner will run through the listof preset stations, stopping for five secondsat each one. Press the button again to stopthe scan at your desired station.Tape RecordingIn normal operation, the audio or videosource selected for listening through theAVR45 is sent to the record outputs.This means that any program you arewatching or listening to may be recordedsimply by placing machines connectedto the outputs for Tape Monitor d orVideo One ¢ in the record mode.When a tape recorder with separate recordand playback heads is used, you maymonitor the output of the recording byselecting the T• Mon Selector 9 k.Note that a red LED will illuminate in thefront panel above the T• Mon Selector 9to remind you that you are listening to therecord playback instead of the actual inputsource being recorded.NOTE: It is not possible to record theoutput of Dolby Digital programs.26
