9 REAR PANEL CONNECTIONSRear Panel Connections‚ Surround Back Preamp Outputs: Whenthe AVR is used in the 6.1 or 7.1 configuration,connect these jacks to an optional, externalpower amplifier to power the Surround BackChannels.⁄ Tape Inputs: Connect these jacks to thePLAY/OUT jacks of an audio recorder.¤ Component Video Outputs: Connectthese outputs to the component video inputs ofa video projector or monitor. When a sourceconnected to one of the Component VideoInputs ‹› is selected the signal will be sentto these jacks.‹ Video 1/Video 2 Component VideoInputs: Connect the Y/Pr/Pb component videooutputs of an HDTV Set-top convertor, satellitereceiver, or other video source device with com-ponent video outputs to these jacks.› DVD Component Video Inputs: Connectthe Y/Pr/Pb component video outputs of a DVDplayer to these jacks.fi AC Power Cord Jack: Connect the ACPower cord to this jack when the installation iscomplete. To ensure safe operation, use onlythe power cord supplied with the unit. If areplacement is required it must be of same typeand capacity.fl Unswitched AC Accessory Outlet: Thisoutlet may be used to power any AC device.The power will remain on at this outlet regard-less of whether the AVR 8000 is on or off.NOTE: The total power consumption of alldevices connected to the accessory outletsshould not exceed 100 watts.‡ Switched AC Accessory Outlets: Theseoutlets may be used to power any device youwish to have turned on when the AVR 8000 isturned on with the System Power ControlButton 2.° Center Speaker Outputs: Connect theseoutputs to the matching + and – terminals onyour center channel speaker. In conformancewith the new CEA color code specification, theGreen Terminal is the positive, or “+” terminalthat should be connected to the red (+) termi-nal on speakers with the older color coding.Connect the black (–) terminal on the AVR tothe black negative (–) terminal on your speaker.(See page 15 for more information on speakerpolarity.)· 8-Channel Direct Inputs: When anoptional, external source with discrete 7.1 ana-log audio output capability such as a DVD-Audio or SACD player is use, connect that unit’ssurround back output jacks here.a Coaxial Digital Audio Output: Connectthis jack to the coaxial digital input of aCD-R/RW, MiniDisc or other digital recorder.b Coaxial Digital Inputs: Connect the coaxdigital output from a DVD player, HDTV receiver,the S/P-DIF output of a compatible computersound card playing MP3 files or streams, LD playeror CD player to these jacks. The signal may beeither a Dolby Digital signal, DTS signal or a stan-dard PCM digital source. Do not connect the RFdigital output of an LD player to these jacks.c 6-Channel Direct Inputs: When anoptional, external source with discrete 5.1analog audio output capability such as aDVD-Audio or SACD player is use, connectthat unit’s output jacks here.NOTE: To assist in making the correct connec-tions for multichannel input output and speakerconnections, all connection jacks and terminalshave been color coded in conformance with thelatest CEA standards as follows:Front Left: WhiteFront Right: RedCenter: GreenSurround Left: BlueSurround Right: GraySurround Back Left: BrownSurround Back Right: TanSubwoofer: PurpleDigital Audio: OrangeComposite Video: YellowComponent Video “Y”: GreenComponent Video “Pr”: RedComponent Video “Pb”: Blued Optical Digital Audio Output: Connectthis jack to the optical digital input connectoron a CD-R/RW, MiniDisc or other digitalrecorder.e Optical Digital Inputs: Connect the opti-cal digital output from a DVD player, HDTVreceiver, the S/P-DIF output of a compatiblecomputer sound card playing MP3 files orstreams, LD player or CD player to these jacks.The signal may be either a Dolby Digital signal,a DTS signal or a standard PCM digital source.f DVD Inputs: Connect the analog left/rightaudio and composite or S-Video output of a DVDplayer or other video source to these jacks.g Amplifier Trigger Jack: Connect this jackto the compatible input trigger jack on a poweramplifier or other relay controlled device. Theconnected product will turn on when the AVR isturned on.h Multizone IR Input: Connect the output ofan IR sensor in a remote room to this jack tooperate the AVR 8000’s multiroom control system.i Remote IR Input: If the AVR 8000’sfront-panel IR sensor is blocked due to cabinetdoors or other obstructions, an external IRsensor may be used. Connect the output ofthe sensor to this jack.j Remote IR Output: This connection per-mits the IR sensor in the receiver to serve otherremote controlled devices. Connect this jack tothe “IR IN” jack on Harman Kardon (or othercompatible) equipment.k Video 1/Video 2 Inputs: Connect theleft/right audio and composite or S-VideoPLAY/OUT jacks on a VCR or other video sourceto these jacks.Video 3/Video 4 Inputs: Connect theleft/right audio and composite or S-Video out-puts of a video source such as a VCR, satellitereceiver, hard drive video recorder or otherdevice to these jacks.Multizone Outputs: Connect these jacksto the optional external audio power amplifierand video distribution system that delivers thesource selected for multizone distribution.Video 1/Video 2 Outputs: Connect theleft/right audio and composite or S-VideoRecord/Input jacks on a VCR or camcorder tothese jacks.Video Monitor Outputs: Connect thesejacks to the composite or S-Video input of a TVmonitor or video projector to view the on-screenmenus and the output of any standard videosource selected by the receiver’s video switcher.34333231AVR8000 harman/kardon |
