INSTALLATION AND CONNECTIONS 13Installation and ConnectionsBatteriesInsert the two AA batteries supplied with theCDR 20’s remote by turning the remote over sothat the bottom of the remote is facing towardsyou. Gently lift the plastic tab on the batterycover up and away from you, and lift the lid off.Insert the batteries in the remote, being carefulto follow the + and – polarity indications in thebottom of the compartment. Replace the coverby first seating the two small tabs into the mat-ing holes at the top of the remote, and thengently push the cover down until the latch snapsinto place with an audible click.NOTE: When replacing batteries, it always agood idea to replace both at the same time.When the remote will not be used for an extend-ed period of time, it is also a good idea toremove the batteries to avoid the possibility ofdamage due to corrosion. Batteries containchemical substances and we recommend thatyou dispose of them properly and in compliancewith any local regulations.IR Remote ConnectionsIf the CDR 20 is installed behind a cabinet orother obstruction that may block the pathbetween the front-panel Remote Sensor Û andthe location where you will use the remote, anoptional external IR sensor may be used.Connect the sensor to the Remote IR In Jackª on the rear-panel. This jack may also be con-nected to the IR Output jack of another compati-ble Harman Kardon component or a compatibleIR system remote product.You may also use the IR Sensor in the CDR 20 tosend commands to other compatible remoteproducts. Connect the Remote IR Out Jack ‚to the input of the other product or system.Power ConnectionsConnect the AC Power Cord ⁄ to an ACpower source. the CDR 20 uses sensitive, high-performance computer-grade CD drives, and toprotect them we recommend that you considerthe use of a surge protector, just as you wouldfor a computer.If the rear-panel AC outlet on a receiver or otherproduct is used, make certain that it provides atleast 28 watts, and that the total power of allproducts connected does not exceed the maxi-mum rated output of the product containing theoutlets. If the CDR 20 is connected to a switchedoutlet, remember to turn on the outlet or prod-uct controlling it in order for the CDR 20 tooperate.
