Damaged power cords should bereplaced immediately by an authorized service centerwith cords meeting factory specifications.Handle the AC Power Cord GentlyWhen disconnecting the power cord from an AC out-let, always pull the plug; never pull the cord. If you donot intend to use the unit for any considerable lengthof time, disconnect the plug from the AC outlet.Do Not Open the CabinetThere are no user-serviceable components inside thisproduct. Opening the cabinet may present a shockhazard, and any modification to the product will voidyour guarantee. If water or any metal object such as apaper clip, wire or staple accidentally falls inside theunit, disconnect it from the AC power source immedi-ately, and consult an authorized service center.Installation Locationn To ensure proper operation, and to avoid thepotential for safety hazards, place the unit on a firmand level surface. When placing the unit on a shelf,be certain that the shelf and any mounting hard-ware can support the weight of the product.n Make certain that proper space is provided bothabove and below the unit for ventilation. If thisproduct will be installed in a cabinet or otherenclosed area, make certain that there is sufficientair movement within the cabinet. The unit shouldbe placed on its own shelf, not directly on top ofanother component.n Do not place the unit on a carpeted surface.n Avoid moist or humid locations.n Avoid installation in extremely hot or cold locations,or an area that is exposed to direct sunlight orheating equipment.n Do not obstruct the ventilation slots on the top ofthe unit, or place objects directly over them.Some surface finishes may be particularly sensitive toabsorbing permanent marks from the rubber feet onthe bottom of your component. This may be due to avariety of factors beyond Harman Kardon's control,including the nature of the finish, cleaning materialsused, and normal heat and vibration caused by theuse of the product, or other factors. Although everyeffort has been made to select high-quality materialsfor your component, we recommend that caution beexercised in choosing an installation location for thecomponent and in normal maintenance practices, asyour warranty will not cover this type of damage tofurniture.CleaningWhen the unit gets dirty, wipe it with a clean, soft, drycloth. If necessary, wipe it with a soft cloth dampenedwith mild soapy water, then a fresh cloth with cleanwater. Wipe immediately with a dry cloth. NEVER usebenzene, aerosol cleaners, thinner, alcohol or anyvolatile cleaning agent. Do not use abrasive cleaners,as they may damage the finish of metal parts. Avoidspraying insecticide near the unit.UnpackingThe carton and shipping materials used to protect yournew receiver during shipment were specially designedto cushion it from shock and vibration. We suggestthat you save the carton and packing materials foruse in shipping if you move, or should the unit everneed repair.To minimize the size of the carton in storage, you maywish to flatten it. This is done by carefully slitting thetape seams on the bottom, and collapsing the cartondown to a more two-dimensional appearance. Othercardboard inserts may be stored in the same manner.Packing materials that cannot be collapsed should besaved along with the carton in a plastic bag.If you do not wish to save the packaging materials,please note that the carton and other sections of theshipping protection are recyclable. Please respect theenvironment and discard those materials at a localrecycling center.Remove Front-Panel Protective FilmIn order to protect the lens covering the front panel ofyour new DVD 27, it is shipped from the factory cov-ered by a protective plastic film. Before using the unit,remove this film by grabbing one corner and gentlypeeling back the plastic sheet. Note that the film mustbe removed for proper operation of the remote control.Moving the UnitBefore moving the unit, be certain to disconnect anyinterconnection cords with other components, andmake certain that you disconnect the unit from theAC outlet.IMPORTANT NOTE: To avoid damage to the DVD 27that may not be covered by the warranty, be certainthat the disc is removed from the unit before it ismoved.
