4 SAFETY INFORMATIONSafety InformationImportant Safety InformationVerify Line Voltage Before UseYour new Harman Kardon PA 2000 amplifierhas been factory-configured for use with 120-volt AC line current. Connecting the amplifier toa line voltage other than that for which it isintended can create a safety and fire hazard, and may damage the amplifier. If you have any questions about the voltagerequirements for your specific model, or aboutthe line voltage in your area, contact your sell-ing dealer before plugging the unit into a walloutlet.Verify AC Circuit Capacity Before UseHigh-power output of your amplifier mayrequire heavy current draw under full load con-ditions. To ensure proper performance andavoid potential safety hazards, we recommendthat it be connected to a circuit with 20-ampcapacity. Connecting multiple amplifiers to thesame circuit, or connecting the amplifier to acircuit used by other heavy-power devices, suchas high-wattage lights, may cause circuit break-ers to trip. It is always a good idea to avoidusing any audio equipment on the same AC cir-cuit as equipment with motors, such as air con-ditioners or refrigerators. This will lessen thepossibility of power variation and electricalstart-up noise affecting your sound system.Do Not Use Extension CordsTo avoid safety hazards, use only the powercord supplied with your unit. If a replacementcord is used, make certain that it is of a similargauge. We do not recommend using extensioncords with this product. As with all electricaldevices, do not run power cords under rugs orcarpets or place heavy objects on power cords.Damaged power cords should be replacedimmediately with cords meeting factory specifi-cations.Handle the AC Power Cord GentlyWhen disconnecting the power cord from anAC outlet, always pull the plug; never pull thecord. If you do not intend to use the amplifierfor a considerable length of time, disconnectthe plug from the AC outlet.Do Not Open the CabinetThere are no user-serviceable componentsinside this product. Opening the cabinet maypresent a shock hazard, and any modificationto the product will void your guarantee. If waterenters the unit, or any metal object such as apaper clip, wire or staple accidentally fallsinside the cabinet, disconnect the unit from theAC power source immediately and consult anauthorized warranty station.Installation Locationn To ensure proper operation and to avoid thepotential for safety hazards, place the uniton a firm and level surface. When placing theunit on a shelf, be certain that the shelf andany mounting hardware can support theamplifier’s weight.n Make certain that the proper space is providedboth above and below the unit for ventila-tion. If the amplifier will be installed in acabinet or other enclosed area, make certainthat there is sufficient air movement withinthe cabinet. Consult with your dealer orinstaller for more information.n Do not place the unit directly on a carpetedsurface.n Avoid installation in extremely hot or coldlocations, in an area that is exposed to directsunlight or near heating equipment.n Avoid moist or humid locations.n Do not obstruct the ventilation slots on thetop of the unit or place objects directly overthem. Remember, power amplifiers generateheat, and the heatsink fins and ventilationslots that form part of the cabinet are spe-cially designed to remove this heat. Placingother electronic equipment near these heat-dissipation systems may possibly affect thelong-term reliability of both your amplifierand the objects placed above it. The cartonand shipping materials used in protectingyour new amplifier were specially designedto cushion it from the shocks and vibrationof shipping. We suggest that you save thecarton and packing materials for use in ship-ping if you move or if the unit ever needsrepair.CleaningWhen the unit gets dirty, wipe it with a clean, soft and dry cloth. If necessary, first wipe thesurface with a soft cloth slightly dampenedwith mild soapy water, followed by a fresh clothwith clean water. Wipe immediately with a drycloth. Never use benzene, thinner, alcohol orany other volatile cleaning agent. Do not useabrasive cleaners, as they may damage the fin-ish of metal parts. Avoid spraying insecticidenear the unit.Moving the UnitBefore moving the unit, be certain to discon-nect any interconnection cords with other com-ponents, and make certain that you disconnectthe unit from the AC outlet.Unpacking and InstallationThe carton and shipping materials used in pro-tecting your new amplifier were speciallydesigned to cushion it from the shocks andvibration of shipping. We suggest that you savethe carton and packing materials for use inshipping if you move or if the unit ever needsrepair. To minimize the size of the carton in storage, you may wish to flatten it. Carefully remove anystaples used to close carton seams; carefully slitthe tape on the bottom and collapse the car-ton. Other cardboard inserts may be stored inthe same manner. Packing materials that can-not be collapsed should be saved along withthe carton in a plastic bag. When positioning the amplifier in its final loca-tion, make certain that it has adequate ventila-tion on all sides, as well as on the top and bot-tom. Do not place CDs, record jackets, owner’smanuals or other paper on top of or beneaththe unit or in between multiple amplifiers in astack. This will block the air flow, causingdegraded performance and a possible fire haz-ard. If the unit is to be enclosed in a cabinet orrack, make certain that there is adequate aircirculation, with means provided for hot air toexit and for cool air to be brought in.
