3. On the Welcome page, type a timeout value (in minutes) in the field that isprovided. The IMM will log you off of the Web interface if your browser isinactive for the number of minutes that you entered for the timeout value.4. Click Continue to start the session. The System Health page provides a quickview of the system status.Enabling the Intel Gigabit Ethernet Utility programThe Intel Gigabit Ethernet Utility program is part of the server firmware. You canuse it to configure the network as a startable device, and you can customize wherethe network startup option appears in the startup sequence. Enable and disable theIntel Gigabit Ethernet Utility program from the Setup utility.Configuring the Gigabit Ethernet controllerThe Ethernet controllers are integrated on the system board. They provide aninterface for connecting to a 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps, or 1 Gbps network and providefull-duplex (FDX) capability, which enables simultaneous transmission and receptionof data on the network. If the Ethernet ports in the server support auto-negotiation,the controllers detect the data-transfer rate (10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, or1000BASE-T) and duplex mode (full-duplex or half-duplex) of the network andautomatically operate at that rate and mode. You do not have to set any jumpers or configure the controllers. However, you mustinstall a device driver to enable the operating system to address the controllers. Tofind updated information about configuring the controllers, complete the followingsteps.Note: Changes are made periodically to the IBM Web site. The actual proceduremight vary slightly from what is described in this document.1. Go to http://www.ibm.com/systems/support/.2. Under Product support, click System x.3. Under Popular links, click Software and device drivers.4. From the Product family menu, select System x3250 M3 and click Go.Enabling and configuring Serial over LAN (SOL)Establish a Serial over LAN (SOL) connection to manage servers from a remotelocation. You can remotely view and change the BIOS settings, restart the server, identify the server, and perform other management functions. Any standard Telnetclient application can access the SOL connection. To enable and configure the server for SOL, you must update and configure theUEFI code; update and configure the integrated management module (IMM)firmware; update and configure the Ethernet controller firmware; and enable theoperating system for an SOL connection.UEFI update and configurationTo update and configure the UEFI code to enable SOL, complete the followingsteps:1. Update the UEFI code:a. Download the latest version of the UEFI code from http://www.ibm.com/systems/support/.70 IBM System x3250 M3 Types 4251, 4252, and 4261: Installation and User’s Guide
