v The server supports 1 GB, 2 GB, 4 GB, 8 GB, and 16 GB DIMMs, with aminimum of 1 GB and a maximum of 192 GB of system memory.For 32-bit operating systems only: Some memory is reserved for varioussystem resources and is unavailable to the operating system. The amount ofmemory that is reserved for system resources depends on the operating system,the configuration of the server, and the configured PCI devices.Note: If you install a ServeRAID-M1015 SAS/SATA adapter, make sure at least 2GB of memory is installed in the server before you run DSA from a bootable CD.v The maximum operating speed of the server is determined by the slowest DIMMin the server.v The server can operate in three modes: sparing, mirroring and independentchannel modes.Note: Memory sparing is only available for Intel Xeon 5600 seriesmicroprocessor.In two-DIMM-per-channel configuration, a server with an Intel Xeon X5600 seriesmicroprocessor automatically operates with a maximum memory speed of up to1333 MHz when one of the following conditions is met:v Two 1.5 V single-rank or dual-rank RDIMMs are installed in the same channel. Inthe Setup utility, Memory speed is set to Max performance modev Two 1.35 V single-rank or dual-ranl RDIMMs are installed in the same channel.In the Setup utility, Memory speed is set to Max performance and LV-DIMMpower is set to Enhance performance mode. The 1.35 V RDIMMs will functionat 1.5 VThe following notes describe the types of DIMMs that the server supports and otherinformation that you must consider when you install DIMMs.v When you install or remove DIMMs, the server configuration informationchanges. When you restart the server, the system displays a message thatindicates that the memory configuration has changed.v The server supports only industry-standard double-data-rate 3 (DDR3), 800,1066, or 1333 MHz, PC3-10600R-999, registered or unbuffered, synchronousdynamic random-access memory (SDRAM) dual inline memory modules (DIMMs)with error correcting code (ECC).
