The following illustration shows how to install DIMMs on the system board.Attention: Static electricity that is released to internal server components whenthe server is powered-on might cause the server to stop, which might result in theloss of data. To avoid this potential problem, always use an electrostatic-dischargewrist strap or other grounding system when you work inside the server with thepower on.To install a DIMM, complete the following steps:1. Read the safety information that begins on page vii and “Installation guidelines”on page 35.2. Turn off the server and peripheral devices; then, disconnect the power cordsand all external cables.3. Remove the left-side cover (see “Removing the left-side cover” on page 57).4. Remove the hot-swap power supply or power supplies from the server.5. Pull up the power-supply cage handle, and then swing the power-supply cageout of the server (see “Opening the power-supply cage” on page 64 for moreinformation).6. Remove the air baffle from the server (see “Removing the air baffle” on page60 for more information).7. Open the retaining clip on each end of the DIMM connector.Attention: To avoid breaking the DIMM retaining clips or damaging theDIMM connectors, open and close the clips gently.8. Touch the static-protective package that contains the DIMM to any unpaintedmetal surface on the outside of the server.
