1. Read the safety information that begins on page vii and the “Installationguidelines” on page 46.2. Turn off the server and disconnect the power cords and all external cables, ifnecessary; then, remove the server cover (see “Removing the cover” on page49).Note: When you disconnect the power source from the server, you lose theability to view the LEDs because the LEDs are not lit when the powersource is removed. Before you disconnect the power source, make anote of which LEDs are lit, including the LEDs that are lit on theoperation information panel, on the light path diagnostics panel, andLEDs inside the server on the system board; then, see the ProblemDetermination and Service Guide for information about how to solve theproblem.3. Remove the PCI Express riser-card assembly from the system board:a. If an adapter is installed in the riser-card assembly, disconnect any cablesthat are connected to the adapter.b. Grasp the riser-card assembly at the rear edge and lift it from the riser-cardconnector on the system board.c. Remove the adapter, if one is present, from the riser-card assembly.d. Store the riser-card assembly and the adapter in a safe place for possiblefuture use.4. Install a PCI-X adapter into the new PCI-X riser-card assembly. See “Installingan adapter” on page 64 for more information. Set any jumpers or switches onthe adapter as directed by the adapter manufacturer.Note: You might have to replace the brackets when you replace a PCI Expressassembly with a PCI-X assembly.5. Insert the PCI-X riser-card assembly into the riser-card connector on the systemboard. Make sure that it is fully seated. If you have other devices to install or remove, do so now. Otherwise, go to“Completing the installation” on page 85.Replacing a PCI-X assembly with a PCI Express assemblyThe server comes with two PCI riser-card assemblies.
