Select this choice to specify the key strokes to start the PXE boot agent utility.You can select Ctrl+S (default), or Ctrl+B.v Banner Message TimeoutSelect this choice to specify the amount of time (in seconds) that the server willwait for you to press Ctrl+S after the prompt appears. You can select 2 (default),3, 5, or 8 seconds.v Link SpeedSelect this choice to set the link speed for the LAN connection. AutoNeg(auto-negotiate) is the default setting.v Pre-boot Wake on LANSelect this choice to enable or disable the pre-boot Wake on LAN feature.Enable is the default settingIf you are using an Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) awareoperating system, such as Microsoft Windows 2000, disable this choice to useWake on LAN support. Otherwise, enable it.If you are using a non-ACPI-aware operating system, do not send wake-uppackets to the server while it is turned on. If you send a wake-up packet to theserver while it is turned on and you are then unable to turn off the server, see“Power problems” in the Problem Determination and Service Guide on the IBMSystem x Documentation CD.Installing and using the baseboard management controller utilityprogramsThe baseboard management controller provides environmental monitoring for theserver. If environmental conditions exceed thresholds or if system components fail,the baseboard management controller lights LEDs to help you diagnose theproblem and also records the error in the BMC system event log.The baseboard management controller also provides the following remote servermanagement capabilities through the OSA SMBridge management utility program:v Command-line interface (IPMI Shell)The command-line interface provides direct access to server managementfunctions through the IPMI 2.0 protocol. Use the command-line interface to issuecommands to control the server power, view system information, and identify theserver. You can also save one or more commands as a text file and run the fileas a script.v Serial over LANEstablish a Serial over LAN (SOL) connection to manage servers from a remotelocation. You can remotely view and change the BIOS settings, restart the server,identify the server, and perform other management functions. Any standard Telnetclient application can access the SOL connection.Note: The server Ethernet ports are set to DHCP by default. The BMC MACaddress can be found on a tag on the front of the server.
