1-2Chapter DescriptionThis chapter contains general information about the contents of this manual,product descriptions, and other information useful when servicing the product.Diagnostic InformationThe diagnostic information contains the check procedures you use todiagnose and isolate product failures. Diagnostic information consists of:Start:This is the starting point for any diagnostic action. Based on high-levelsymptoms, the information in this check procedure directs you to moredetailed procedures to help you resolve the machine failure.Symptoms, Messages, Error Codes, and Beeps:The Index of Symptoms, Messages, Error Codes, or Beeps lists symptomsand their probable causes, and directs you to the applicable checkprocedures to help you resolve the machine failure. The index also listswhich FRU is the likely cause of the problem.Check Procedures:When the Start check procedure sends you to a specific check procedureor the Index of Symptoms, Messages, Error Codes, or Beeps, turn to thatsection and perform the steps as instructed. If there are any notes orinstructions at the top of the page, read them before you start theprocedure. Carefully read each step of the check procedure and performthe appropriate action as instructed. If you do not remember the location ofa specific part or test point, or if you do not remember an adjustment orremoval procedure, see the chapter with that information. Always return tothe check procedure after you do this. In some cases, you are sent toother check procedures to find the failure.Diagnostic Aids:The Diagnostic Aids chapter contains additional information to help youdiagnose a failure of a specific part.Using the Check ProceduresFailing Parts or Assemblies: The check procedures generally help you tracea problem to one part or assembly. The last step of the specific checkprocedure you are using indicates that a part or assembly is failing. Youshould inspect the part or assembly before you decide to replace it. It might beloose, dirty, or in need of a small repair. The check procedures might lead youto two, or even three, possible failing parts or assemblies. The parts that might
