Chapter 4. Configuring the serverThe ServerGuide Setup and Installation CD provides software setup tools andinstallation tools that are specifically designed for the server. Use this CD during theinitial installation of the server to configure basic hardware features and to simplifythe operating-system installation. (See “Using the ServerGuide Setup andInstallation CD” for more information.)In addition to the ServerGuide Setup and Installation CD, you can use the followingconfiguration programs to customize the server hardware:v Configuration/Setup Utility programv RAID configuration programs– IBM ServeRAID Configuration Utility program for the following server models:- Hot-swap SAS- Hot-swap SATA- Simple-swap SATA models when the optional ServeRAID-8k Controller isinstalled– Adaptec ® RAID (HostRAID ™) Configuration Utility program (for simple-swapSATA models with no RAID adapter installed)– ServeRAID Managerv Baseboard Management Controller (BMC)v Boot Menu programv Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet Utility programv Ethernet controller configurationv IBM DirectorFor more information about these programs, see “Configuring the server” in theUser’s Guide on the IBM System x3400 Documentation CD.Using the ServerGuide Setup and Installation CDThe ServerGuide ™ Setup and Installation CD provides state-of-the-art programs todetect the server model and hardware options, configure the server hardware,provide device drivers, and help you install the operating system. For informationabout the supported operating-system versions, see the label on the CD. If theServerGuide Setup and Installation CD did not come with the server, you candownload the latest version from http://www.ibm.com/pc/qtechinfo/MIGR-4ZKPPT.html.To start the ServerGuide Setup and Installation CD, complete the following steps:1. Insert the CD, and restart the server. If the CD does not start, see “ServerGuideproblems” on page 79.2. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to:a. Select your language.b. Select your keyboard layout and country.c. View the overview to learn about ServerGuide features.d. View the readme file to review installation tips about the operating systemand adapter.e.
