ServerGuide Setup and Installation CDSymptom ActionThe ServerGuide Setupand Installation CD willnot start.v Make sure that the server supports the ServerGuide program and has a startable(bootable) CD or DVD drive.v If the startup (boot) sequence settings have been changed, make sure that the CD orDVD drive is first in the startup sequence.v If more than one CD or DVD drive is installed, make sure that only one drive is set asthe primary drive. Start the CD from the primary drive.ServeRAID programcannot view all installeddrives or the operatingsystem cannot beinstalled.v Make sure that there are no duplicate IRQ assignments.v Make sure that the hard disk drive is connected correctly.The operating-systeminstallation programcontinuously loops.Make more space available on the hard disk.The ServerGuideprogram will not start theoperating-system CD.Make sure that the operating-system CD is supported by the ServerGuide program. Seethe ServerGuide Setup and Installation CD label for a list of supported operating-systemversions.The operating systemcannot be installed; theoption is not available.Make sure that the operating-system is supported on the server. If the operating system issupported, no logical drive is defined (RAID servers). Run the ServerGuide program andmake sure that setup is complete.Troubleshooting tablesUse the following tables to find solutions to problems that have identifiablesymptoms. See the Problem Determination and Service Guide on the IBM Systemx3400 Documentation CD for more detailed troubleshooting information. If youcannot find the problem in these tables, run the diagnostic programs (see “Runningthe diagnostic programs” in the Problem Determination and Service Guide).If you have just added new software or a new optional device and the server is notworking, complete the following steps before using the troubleshooting tables:1. Check the system-board LEDs or the LEDs on the front control panel (see“System-board LEDs” on page 91).2. Remove the software or device that you added.3.
