Turn the drive off and on.If the problem persists, turn the drive off, and thenturn it on again.Backup software is reporting anerror.One of the following situations might have occurred:v The drive needs cleaning. Always try cleaning thedrive before you assume that the cartridge is bad.Be sure to use a VXA tape cleaning cartridge. Formore information, see “Using a cleaning cartridge”on page 3-3.v The cartridge is incompatible with the tape drive.Be sure to use a VXA tape cartridge.v If you are trying to write data, the cartridge mightbe write-protected. Check the switch on the edge ofthe cartridge. If the switch does not cover theopening, the tape is write-protected. If the switchcovers the opening, you can write to the tape. Use apen or small screwdriver to move the switch.
