Step 21. Set the Console’s Date and TimeAt the initial installation of the HMC, the date and time must be set on the HMC. Instructions for setting thedate and time are contained in the IBM Hardware Management Console for pSeries Installation andOperations Guide. The battery-operated clock keeps the date and time for the HMC. You may also need to set the consoledate and time under the following circumstances:v If the battery is replaced in the HMCv If your system is physically moved to a different time zoneStep 22. Verify Installation is Complete Using the HMC InterfaceUse the HMC basic system management tasks to verify that the installation is successful and complete. The tasks may be used to power the system on or off, view managed systems properties, and otherfunctions. For detailed procedures on using the basic management tasks, refer to the IBM HardwareManagement Console for pSeries Installation and Operations Guide.Step 23. Determine Firmware and Microcode LevelsEnsure that the latest firmware and microcode levels are installed on the system. The following firmwareand microcode should be brought to the latest level:v System firmwarev Frame (power subsystem) firmwarev Integrated SCSI controller microcodev Integrated Ethernet microcodeNote: The integrated SCSI controller and integrated Ethernet microcode can only be verified after theoperating system is installed. To determine the current level of firmware and microcode, and how to perform updates, go to ProcessorSubsystem Firmware Updates in the Eserver pSeries 655 User’s Guide.Step 24. Installing the Operating SystemIf an operating system has been preinstalled on your system, see the documentation provided with theoperating system. If you are installing the AIX operating system at this time, AIX can be installed from a Network InstallationManagement (NIM) server. For information about installing AIX from a NIM server, see the AIX InstallationGuide and Reference. When installation of AIX is completed, return to this step.Step 25. Verify Basic Hardware and Operating System OperationVerify the basic hardware and operating system operation by running the online diagnostics in the servicemode as described in “Running Online Diagnostics in Service Mode” on page 34.Step 26. Install the Rack DoorsThis step describes how to install the doors on the system rack. For more information about the doors, see“Step 2.
