Chapter 1. Introducing the IBM xSeries 235 Type 8671 serverThe IBM ® Eserver xSeries ® 235 Type 8671 is a high-performance server. It canbe upgraded to a symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) server through amicroprocessor upgrade. It is ideally suited for networking environments that requiresuperior microprocessor performance, efficient memory management, flexibility, andlarge amounts of reliable data storage.Performance, ease of use, reliability, and expansion capabilities were keyconsiderations in the design of your server. These design features make it possiblefor you to customize the system hardware to meet your needs today and provideflexible expansion capabilities for the future.Your server contains IBM Enterprise X-Architecture ™ technologies, which helpincrease performance and reliability. For more information, see “What your serveroffers” on page 4 and “Reliability, availability, and serviceability” on page 5.You can obtain up-to-date information about your server and other IBM serverproducts at http://www.ibm.com/eserver/xseries/ on the World Wide Web.Your server serial number and model number are located on labels on the bottom ofthe server and on the front, visible through the bezel. You will need these numberswhen you register your server with IBM.
