5.2 Winterizing the PumpThe pump must be protected when freezingtemperatures are expected. Allowing the pump tofreeze will cause severe damage and void the war-ranty.CAUTIONDo not use antifreeze solutions in the pool,spa, or hot tub systems! Antifreeze is highly toxicand may damage the circulation system. The onlyexception to this is Propylene Glycol. For moreinformation see your local pool/spa supply store orcontact a qualified swimming pool service com-pany.CAUTION1. Drain all water from the pump, systemequipment, and piping.2. Remove the two drain plugs. Store the drainplugs in a safe location and reinstall themwhen the cold weather season is over. Do notlose the o-rings. (Drain Plug with O-ring Set,R0446000)3. Keep the motor covered and dry.NOTE Covering the pump with plastic will createcondensation, and this moisture will damage thepump. The best way to protect your pump is tohave a qualified service technician or electricianproperly disconnect the electrical wiring at theswitch or junction box. Once the power is removed,the two unions can be loosened and the pumpstored indoors. For safety, and to prevent entry ofcontaminants, reinstall all conduit and terminal boxcovers.4. When the system is reopened for operation,make sure all piping, valves, wiring, andequipment are in accordance with themanufacturer's recommendations. Pay closeattention to the filter and electrical connections.5.
