Page 13ENGLISHJandy ® Pro Series VS PlusHP Pumps | Installation & Operation Manual4.2 Conduct Pressure TestWARNINGWhen pressure testing a system with water, air is oftentrapped in the system during the filling process. This airwill compress when the system is pressurized. Shouldthe system fail, this trapped air can propel debris at ahigh speed and cause injury. Every effort to removetrapped air must be taken, including opening the bleedvalve on the filter and loosening the pump basket lidwhile filling the pump.WARNINGTrapped air in the system can cause the filter lidto be blown off, which can result in death, seriousinjury, or property damage. Be sure all air is properlypurged out of the system before operating. DO NOTUSE COMPRESSED AIR TO PRESSURE TEST ORCHECK FOR LEAKS.WARNINGELECTRICAL SHOCK HAZARDDo not pressure test above 35 PSI. Pressure testingmust be done by a trained pool professional. Circulationequipment that is not tested properly might fail, whichcould result in severe injury or property damage.WARNINGWhen pressure testing the system with water, it is veryimportant to make sure that the pump basket lid iscompletely secure.1. Fill the system with water, being careful toeliminate trapped air.2. Pressurize the system with water to no more than35 PSI.3. Close the valve to trap pressurized water in thesystem.4. Carefully observe the system for leaks and/orpressure decay.4.3 Start-upWARNINGTo avoid risk of property damage, severe personalinjury or death, verify that all power is turned off beforestarting this procedure. If this is a new pool installation, make sure all pipingis clear of construction debris and has been properlypressure tested. Check the filter for proper installation, verifying that all connections and clamps are secureaccording to the manufacturer’s recommendations.CAUTIONNever run the pump without water. Running thepump “dry” for any length of time can cause severedamage to both the pump and motor and will void thewarranty.1. Release all pressure from the system and open thefilter pressure release valve.*Open pressure relief valveWhen all air has been purgedthere will be a water discharge.Pressure relief valve displayed is typical forJandy Cartridge Filters. Be sure to check withyour filter manufacturer if the pressure reliefvalve on your filter differs from the one displayed.*Figure 11. Purge Air from system2. Take one of the following actions:a. If the pump is located below the water level ofthe pool, open the filter pressure release valveto prime the pump with water.b. If the pump is located above the water level, remove the lid and fill the basket with waterbefore starting the pump.3. Prior to replacing the lid, check for debris aroundthe lid o-ring seat. Debris around the lid o-ringseat will cause air to leak into the system, andmake it difficult to prime the pump.4. Hand-tighten the lid to make an air tight seal. Donot use any tools to tighten the lid: hand-tightenonly. Ensure that the lid is secure. Make sure allvalves are open and the unions are tight.5. Restore power to the pump and then turn it on.6. Once all the air has left the filter, close the filterpressure release valve.7. The pump should prime. The time it takes toprime will depend on the elevation and length ofpipe used on the suction supply pipe. If the pumpdoes not prime and all the instructions to this pointhave been followed, check for a suction leak. Ifthere is no leak, repeat Steps 2 through 7.8.
