1412.3 Changing speed rangeTo change from high to low speed range, push inlever (D, Figure 5) and rotate it almost 180degrees. Lever will stay in position once pressureis released.Do not change gears whilespindle is running. Rotate spindle by hand toensure clutch is engaged prior to turning on.Do not turn on machine unless spindle can bemoved freely.12.4 Manual feed12.4.1 Manual fine feed (handwheel)Refer to Figure 8.1. Disengage automatic feed by pulling out knob(E, Figure 8) and moving lever to the righthole.2. Position feed reversing knob (K) to the center,or neutral, position.3. Engage feed trip lever (I) by pulling away fromthe head assembly.4. The quill can now be moved up or down byturning handwheel (J, Figure 5).Figure 8: Manual feed controls12.4.2 Manual coarse feed (handle)Refer to Figure 8.1. Disengage automatic feed by pulling out knob(E, Figure 8) and moving lever to the righthole.2. Position feed reversing knob (K) to the center,or neutral, position.3. Disengage feed trip lever (I) by pushingtowards head assembly.4. Use coarse feed handle (F, Figure 5) to movethe spindle.12.4.3 Micrometer adjusting nuts formanual feedRefer to Figures 5 and 8.1. Lower quill to required depth.2. Tighten quill lock (G, Figure 8).3. Screw the micrometer nut (H1) against quillstop (L), and tighten micrometer jam nut (H2).4. Loosen quill lock (G).5. Use coarse or fine manual downfeed.Note: Always make a test cut to verify that depthof cut is correct.12.5 Automatic feedRefer to Figure 8.1. Ensure quill lock (G, Figure 8) is loosened byrotating counterclockwise.2. Set micrometer nut (H) to desired depth.3. Engage auto feed lever by pulling out lockknob (E) and moving lever to the left hole.4. Select feed direction by setting feed directionknob (K) position per Table 2.Spindle dir. Feed dir. Knob positionCW Down InUp OutCCW Down OutUp InTable 25. Select feed rate from feed selector knob (M)0.0015”, 0.003”, and 0.006” per spindlerevolution. It is easier to change feed ratewhile the spindle is turning.6. Engage feed trip lever (I, Figure 8) by pullingaway from head assembly.Automatic (power) feedmay be engaged when spindle isrotating, however, it must be engagedgently to avoid damage to the worm gear. Do not use power feed at speedsabove 2700 R.P.M. It is recommended that the powerfeed worm gear be disengagedwhenever the power feed is notrequired. Maximum loading is a 3/8” (9.5mm)diameter bit for drilling in steel. Usemanual feed for bits larger than 3/8".Note: Due to variables in tool diameter, coatings, coolant, and materials, no specific spindle speed orfeed rate recommendations are provided. Usegeneral shop manuals that have data applicable tothe milling and drilling operations being performed.Or, contact the supplier of the tooling, coolant andmaterial for specific recommendations.12.5.1 Micrometer adjusting nuts forauto feedRefer to Figures 5 and 8.1. Lower quill to required depth.
