12Grounding InstructionsThis Band Saw must begrounded while in use to protect the operatorfrom electric shock. In the event of a malfunction or breakdown, grounding provides a path of least resistance forelectric current to reduce the risk of electricshock. This tool is equipped with an electric cordhaving an equipment-grounding conductor and agrounding plug that looks similar to the plug inFigure 10. The plug must be inserted into amatching outlet that is properly installed andgrounded in accordance with all local codes andordinances.Do not modify the plug provided. If it will not fitthe outlet, have the proper outlet installed by aqualified electrician.Improper connection of the equipment-grounding conductor can result in a risk ofelectric shock. The conductor, with insulationhaving an outer surface that is green with orwithout yellow stripes, is the equipment-grounding conductor. If repair or replacement ofthe electric cord or plug is necessary, do notconnect the equipment-grounding conductor to alive terminal.Figure 10Check with a qualified electrician or servicepersonnel if the grounding instructions are notcompletely understood, or if in doubt as towhether the tool is properly grounded.Repair or replace a damaged or worn cordimmediately.115 Volt OperationAs received from the factory, your bandsaw isready to run at 115-volt operation. Thisbandsaw, when wired for 115 volts, is intendedfor use on a circuit that has an outlet and a plugthat looks like the one illustrated in Figure 10. Atemporary adapter, like the adapter in Figure 11,may be used to connect this plug to a two-polereceptacle, as shown in Figure 11, if a properlygrounded outlet is not available. The temporaryadapter should only be used until a properlygrounded outlet can be installed by a qualifiedelectrician. This adapter is not applicable inCanada. The green colored rigid ear, lug, ortab, extending from the adapter, must beconnected to a permanent ground such as aproperly grounded outlet box, as shown inFigure 11.Figure 11230 Volt ConversionIf 230V, single-phase operation is desired, thefollowing instructions must be followed:Disconnect machine from power source. This band saw is supplied with four motor leadsthat are connected for 115V operation, as shownin Figure 12. Reconnect these four motor leadsfor 230V operation, as shown in Figure 12.Figure 12
