13The 115V attachment plug supplied with theband saw must be replaced with a UL/CSAlisted plug suitable for 230V operation, as shownin Figure 13. Contact your local authorized JETservice center or qualified electrician for properprocedures to install the plug. The band sawmust comply with all local and national codesafter the 230-volt plug is installed. The band saw with a 230-volt plug should onlybe connected to an outlet having the sameconfiguration (Figure 13). No adapter isavailable or should be used with the 230-voltplug.Figure 13IMPORTANT: In all cases (115 or 230 volts),make certain the receptacle in question isproperly grounded. If you are not sure, have aregistered electrician check the receptacle. It is recommended that the JWBS-14OS BandSaw be connected to a dedicated, minimum 15amp circuit with a 15 amp circuit breaker or timedelay fuse. Local codes take precedence overrecommendations.Extension CordsUse only three wire extension cords that havethree-prong grounding plugs and three-polereceptacles that accept the tool’s plug.Make sure the cord is in good condition, andheavy enough to carry the current your bandsaw will draw. An undersized cord will cause adrop in line voltage, resulting in loss of powerand overheating. Table 1 shows the correct sizeto use depending on cord length and the ampererating on your machine’s nameplate. If in doubt, use the next heavier gauge. The smaller thegauge number, the heavier the cord.Repair or replace a damaged or worn cordimmediately.Power Extension CordCurrant(Amps)LinevoltageCord length infeetCord gauge(AWG)0-6 1200 to 25 1825 to 50 1650 to 100 16over 100 146-10 1200 to 25 1825 to 50 1650 to 100 14over 100 1210-12 1200 to 25 1625 to 50 1650 to 100 14over 100 1212-16 1200 to 25 1425 to 50 12over 50 not recommendedTable 1
