18MaintenanceFuelUse clean fuel oil that is not contaminated with waterand debris. Replace fuel filter and drain tank every 100hours of operation.Use No.1 or No 2 Heating Oil (ASTM D306) only.NEVER use gasoline in your burner fuel tank. Gasolineis more combustible than fuel oil and could result in aserious explosion. NEVER use crankcase or waste oilin your burner. Fuel unit malfunction could result fromcontamination.Fuel Control SystemThis machine utilizes a fuel solenoid valve located onthe fuel pump to control the flow of fuel to the combus-tion chamber. The solenoid, which is normally closed, isactivated by a flow switch when water flows through it.When the operator releases the trigger on the spraygun, the flow of water through the flow switch stops, turning off the electrical current to the fuel solenoid. The solenoid then closes, shutting off the supply of fuelto the combustion chamber. Controlling the flow of fuelin this way gives an instantaneous burn-or-no-burn situ-ation, thereby eliminating high and low water tempera-tures and the combustion smoke normally associatedwith machines incorporating a spray gun. Periodicinspection, to insure that the fuel solenoid valvefunctions properly, is recommended. This can be doneby operating the machine and checking to see that theburner is not firing when the spray gun is in the OFFposition.Fuel Pressure Adjustment:To control water temperature, adjust fuel pressure byturning the regulating pressure adjusting screwclockwise to increase, counterclockwise to decrease.Do not exceed 200 psi. NOTE: When changing fuelpump, a bypass plug must be installed in return port orfuel pump will not prime.Burner NozzleKeep the tip free of surface deposits by wiping it with aclean, solvent saturated cloth, being careful not to plugor enlarge the nozzle. For maximum efficiency, replacethe nozzle each season.Electrode SettingKärcher ClearFire Oil BurnerBurner Air Adjustment: The oil burner on thismachine is preset for operation at altitudes below 500feet. If operated at higher altitudes, it may be necessaryto adjust the air band for a #1 or #2 smoke spot on theBacharach scale. To adjust, start machine and turn burner ON. Loosentwo locking screws found on the air band and close airband until black smoke appears from burner exhaustvent. Note air band position. Next, slowly open the airband until white smoke just starts to appear. Turn airband halfway back to the previously noted position.Tighten locking screws.Karcher HDS 600-606 Operator’s Manual 9.800-080.0-ACPeriodically Check Wiring Connections.
