360 N5511A Phase Noise Test System User’s GuidePreventive MaintenanceUsing, Inspecting, and Cleaning RF ConnectorsCleaning Procedure1. Blow particulate matter from connectors using an environmentally-safeaerosol such as Aero-Duster. (This product is recommended by the UnitedStates Environmental Protection Agency and contains tetrafluoroethane. You can order this aerosol from Keysight (see Table 19-2).)2. Use alcohol and a lint-free cloth to wipe connector surfaces. Wet a smallswab with a small quantity of alcohol and clean the connector with theswab.3. Allow the alcohol to evaporate off of the connector before makingconnections. To prevent electrical shock, disconnect the Keysight Technologies Model N5511A from mainsbefore cleaning. Use a dry cloth or one slightly dampened with water to clean the external caseparts. Do not attempt to clean internally.Do not allow excessive alcohol to run into the connector. Excessive alcohol entering theconnector collects in pockets in the connector’s internal parts. The liquid will cause randomchanges in the connector’s electrical performance. If excessive alcohol gets into a connector, layit aside to allow the alcohol to evaporate. This may take up to three days. If you attach thatconnector to another device it can take much longer for trapped alcohol to evaporate.Table 19-2 Cleaning Supplies Available from KeysightProduct Part NumberAero-Duster 8500-6460Isopropyl alcohol 8500-5344Lint-Free cloths 9310-0039Small polyurethane swabs 9301-1243If flammable cleaning materials are used, the material should not be stored, or left open in thearea of the equipment.
