ESI-500Pilot’s Guide2-6OperationShutdown Procedure1. Remove aircraft power from the ESI-500. (Battery backup isnow functioning as indicated by battery icon in upper left side ofdisplay.)2. Press Menu button. The BATT Shutdown menu item should behighlighted.3. Press the knob to select BATT Shutdown.4. Press the knob to Confirm.• Cancel can be chosen by rotating the knob until it is selected(highlighted in blue). Press the knob to return to the Menu list.Auto Off FeatureIf configured for Auto Off, the unit automatically removes power afterthe installation configurable time (5, 40, 70 minutes) has expired.When five minutes remain in the Auto Off cycle, the pilot is given theoption (see message below) to remain on battery power, otherwisethe unit will shut downStartup in Battery Backup Mode1. Press and hold the Menu button for approximately 10 seconds.2. The unit will begin normal start up showing the splash screenfollowed by the acknowledgement screen (if applicable).3. Normal operation begins with the battery discharge icon showingin the upper left corner of the screen.Battery CalibrationA controlled discharge of the indicator’s internal battery pack is requiredannually to maintain accuracy of the capacity meter. Consider thefollowing before performing the calibration procedure:• Read the entire calibration procedure prior to starting.• The calibration procedure can be accomplished by the pilot/operator whenever a battery calibration is needed.• It is required that the calibration procedure be performed anytimea battery is replaced. The calibration can be performed at anytimeafterward and as often as desired in order to align the calibrationwith scheduled maintenance inspections or to accommodatetemperature and time requirements.PRESS MENU KEY FOR BATTERY POWER
