ESI-500Pilot’s Guide3-24Display FeaturesSynthetic Vision Terrain Alerting FunctionThe Synthetic Vision Terrain Alerting function looks ahead of theaircraft projected vertical and horizontal flight path, including turns, todetermine if any terrain or obstacles might pose a threat. (Hereafterthe word “terrain” refers to “terrain or obstacles” unless indicatedotherwise.) The ESI-500 Synthetic Vision Terrain Alerting functiondetermines the terrain threat based on the phase of flight (Figure 3-21)and on the predicted terrain clearance compared to the required terrainclearance (Tables 3-1 & 3-2). Alerts are disabled within the area 1.2nmi around the runway and 500 ft above the runway threshold whenyou are landing to prevent nuisance alerts.Figure 3-21: Phase of Flight Definitions15 nmiTerminal Phase3,500 ft1,900 ft1,500 ftorNot to ScaleApproachPhaseNearestRunwayElevationEnroute PhaseDeparturePhase5 nmi 5 nmi
