tion and performs the antiskid func-tion that optimizes wheel slippingwhen starting off and picking up dueto snubbing the wheels and, if neces-sary, reducing the engine torque.WarningActuating the ESC system, accompanied by flashing the ESCalarm, indicates that limit of tiregridding has been reached. Toavoid losing control of the vehicleyou have to adapt for the real roadconditions.Function HHC(in the design variant)ESP system (optional) is equippedwith function to prevent the car fromrolling down when starting movementforward and reverse uphill (HHC – hillhold control). When stopping uphill with a slopemore than 4% hold brake pedal withsufficient force for ensuring the carimmobility. When brake pedal relea-sed and accelerator pedal depressedthe HHC function keeps the pressurein brake hydraulic drive till the startmoment, but for no more than 2 sec-onds that prevent cars from rollingdown.HHC triggering is accompanied byspecific noise of actuators.HHC doesn’t work when using theparking brake or ESC malfunction.Auxiliary braking systemVehicles with the ABS or the ESCare equipped with the vacuum boost-er with an auxiliary braking system, which according to the high speed ofpedal pressing recognizes the needfor emergency braking and automat-ically provides maximum brakingperformance as long as the brakepedal is depressed.VEHICLE TOWINGTo tow the vehicle attach the tow-ing rope only to the front or rear tow-ing eyes (Fig. 47).Before towing, insert the key intothe ignition switch to position I. Ob-serve traffic rules when towing. When towing, make sure that thetowing rope is drawn. Towing the ve-hicle must be carried out smoothly, without jerks and sharp turns.ATTENTION!The vacuum booster performsits function only when the engineis running. Therefore, when tow-ing the vehicle with the engine offyou should press the brake pedalmuch stronger when braking.Power steering does not workwith the engine off (disabled), sothat the efforts on the steeringwheel will increase significantly.7* 99Fig. 47.
