CAUTIONALWAYS wear eye protection and gloves when sharpening ablade.1. A blade should be replaced or sharpened if it is dullor nicked.2. Clean blade washer and blade mounting surfacebefore installing a new blade. Also clean the oldblade if you plan to sharpen it for reuse.Refer to Figure 5-6:3. Maintain sharpness by grinding only the top of thecutting edge at the same bevel as the original edge.Blade SharpeningFigure 5-6Refer to Figure 5-7:4. Check blade balance by positioning the bladehorizontally on a nail or shaft through the center hole.If either end of the blade rotates downward, grind(remove) metal on that end until the blade willbalance. The blade is properly balanced whenneither end drops. CAUTIONThe belt drive system is under spring tension. Use care toavoid bodily harm removing and installing belt!Refer to Figure 5-8:These illustrations are also on the labels located on thetop of the mower decks.1. Remove right hand and left hand belt covers.2. Disengage belt tensioning latch by turning releasenut with a 3/4" wrench.3. Replace old belt with a new Land Pride belt makingsure the new belt is positioned correctly in all thepulley grooves.4. Engage belt tensioning latch by turning the releasenut with a 3/4" wrench.5. Check for correct belt tension. Refer to “BeltTension” on page 22.6.
