141. Vertical vise (Fig. 20)The vertical vise can be installed in two positions oneither the left or right side of the guide fence, or theholder assembly (optional accessory). Insert thevise rod into the hole in the guide fence or the holderassembly and tighten the screw to secure the viserod. (Note: When using the holder assembly, install iton the holder as shown in Fig. 20.)Position the vise arm according to the thickness andshape of the workpiece and secure the vise arm bytightening the screw.Make sure that no part of the tool contacts the visewhen lowering the handle fully. If some part contactsthe vise, re-position the vise. Press the workpieceflat against the guide fence and the turn base. Posi-tion the workpiece at the desired cutting position andsecure it firmly by tightening the vise knob. The max-imum thickness of workpieces which can be securedby the vertical vise is 61 mm.2. Horizontal vise (optional accessory)(Fig. 21 & 22)The horizontal vise can be installed on either the leftor right side of the base. By turning the vise knobcounterclocwise, the screw is released and the viseshaft can be moved rapidly in and out. To grip work-pieces, turn the vise knob gently clockwise until theprojection reaches its topmost position, then fastensecurely. If the vise knob is forced in or pulled outwhile being turned clockwise, the projection maystop at an angle. In this case, turn the vise knobback counterclockwise until the screw is released, before turning again gently clockwise. The maximumwidth of workpieces which can be secured by thehorizontal vise is 122 mm.3. Holders and holder assembly (optional accessory)The holders and the holder assembly can beinstalled on either side as a convenient means ofsupporting workpieces horizontally. Install them asshown in Fig. 23. Then tighten the screws firmly tosecure the holders and the holder assembly.(Fig. 23)When cutting long workpieces, use the holder-rodassembly (optional accessory). It consists of twoholder assemblies and two rods 12. (Fig. 24)CAUTION:Always support long workpieces level with the topsurface of the turn base for accurate cuts and to pre-vent dangerous loss of control of the tool.Switch action (Fig. 25)CAUTION:• Before inserting the battery cartridge into the tool, always check to see that the switch trigger actuatesproperly and returns to the “OFF” position whenreleased.• When not using the tool, remove the lock-off button andstore it in a secure place. This prevents unauthorizedoperation. To prevent the switch trigger from being accidentallypulled, a lock-off button is provided. To start the tool, press in the lock-off button and pull thetrigger. Release the switch trigger to stop.Lock lever (Fig. 26)For European countries onlyWhen cutting, push the lock lever to the left to release thehandle from the raised position. When the cut is com-pleted, release the lock lever after returning the blade toits fully elevated position. The handle will be automati-cally locked in the raised position.OperationCAUTION:Do not apply excessive pressure on the handle when cut-ting. Too much force may result in overload of the motorand/or decreased cutting efficiency.1. Press cutting (Fig. 27)• Workpieces up to 61 mm high x 122 mm wide canbe cut in the following way.• Secure the workpiece with the vise. Switch on thetool and wait until the blade attains full speedbefore lowering gently into the cut. When the cut iscompleted, switch off the tool and WAIT UNTILTHE BLADE HAS COME TO A COMPLETE STOPbefore returning the blade to its fully elevated posi-tion.2. Miter cuttingRefer to the previously covered “Positioning foradjusting the miter angle”.3. Bevel cut (Fig. 28)• At a left 45° bevel angle, workpieces up to 45 mmhigh x 122 mm wide can be cut.• Loosen the lever and tilt the saw blade to set thebevel angle. Refer to the previously covered “Posi-tioning for adjusting the bevel angle”. Secure theworkpiece with the vise. Switch on the tool andwait until the blade attains full speed. Then gentlylower the handle to the fully lowered position whileapplying pressure in parallel with the blade. Whenthe cut is completed, switch off the tool and WAITUNTIL THE BLADE HAS COME TO A COM-PLETE STOP before returning the blade to its fullyelevated position.CAUTION:• During a bevel cut, it may create a conditionwhereby the piece cut off will come to rest againstthe side of the blade. If the blade is raised whilethe blade is still rotating, this piece may be caughtby the blade, causing fragments to be scatteredaround which is dangerous. The blade should beraised ONLY after the blade has come to a com-plete stop.• When pressing down the handle, apply pressure inparallel with the blade. If a force is applied perpen-dicularly to the turn base or if the pressure direc-tion is changed during a cut, the precision of thecut will be impaired. |
