Denomination of components (Fig. 24)6. PUTTING INTO OPERATION6a. Only for models withfastening nuts on thesprocket guardCAUTION:Before doing any work on the guide bar or chain, always switch off the engine and pull the plug capoff the spark plug (see 7-6 “Replacing the sparkplug”). Always wear protective gloves!CAUTION:Start the petrol chain saw only after havingassembled it completely and inspected.6a-1. Mounting the guide bar and saw chain(Fig. 25)Use the universal wrench delivered with the petrol chain sawfor the following work.Put the petrol chain saw on a stable surface and carry out thefollowing steps for mounting the guide bar and saw chain:Release the chain brake by pulling the hand guard (1) indirection of arrow.Unscrew retaining nuts (2).Pull off the sprocket guard (3).(Fig. 26)Turn chain tensioning screw (4) to the left (counter‑clockwise)until the pin (5) of the chain tensioner is underneath thethreaded pin (6).(Fig. 27)Put on the guide bar (7). Make sure that the pin (5) of thechain tensioner engages in the hole in the guide bar.(Fig. 28)Lift the chain (9) over the sprocket (8).Guide the chain from above about halfway into the groove(10) on the guide bar.CAUTION:Note that the cutting edges along the top of the chain mustpoint in the direction of the arrow!(Fig. 29)Pull the chain (9) around the sprocket nose (11) of the guidebar in the direction of the arrow.(Fig. 30)Replace the sprocket guard (3).IMPORTANT:Lift the saw chain over the chain catcher (12).Tighten the nuts (2) only hand‑tight to begin with.6a-2. Tightening the saw chain(Fig. 31)Turn the chain tensioning screw (4) to the right (clockwise)until the saw chain catches in the groove on the lower side ofthe guide bar (see circle).Slightly lift the end of the guide bar and turn the chainadjusting screw (4) to the right (clockwise) until the chainrests against the bottom side of the guide bar. While still holding up the tip of the guide bar, tighten theretaining nuts (2) with the universal wrench.6a-3. Checking the chain tension(Fig. 32)The tension of the chain is correct if the chain rests againstthe bottom side of the guide bar and can still be easily turnedby hand. While doing so the chain brake must be released.Check the chain tension frequently ‑ new chains tend to getlonger during use! When checking the chain tension the engine must beswitched off.
