7 ENGLISHTool / battery protection systemThe tool is equipped with a tool/battery protection sys-tem. This system automatically cuts off power to themotor to extend tool and battery life. The tool will auto-matically stop during operation if the tool or battery isplaced under one of the following conditions:Overload protectionWhen the battery is operated in a manner that causesit to draw an abnormally high current, the tool automat-ically stops without any indication. In this situation, turnthe tool off and stop the application that caused the toolto become overloaded. Then turn the tool on to restart.Overheat protectionWhen the tool or battery is overheated, the tool stopsautomatically and the lamp blinks. In this case, let thetool and battery cool before turning the tool on again.Overdischarge protectionWhen the battery capacity is not enough, the tool stopsautomatically. In this case, remove the battery from thetool and charge the battery.Protections against other causesProtection system is also designed for other causesthat could damage the tool and allows the tool to stopautomatically. Take all the following steps to clear thecauses, when the tool has been brought to a temporaryhalt or stop in operation.1. Turn the tool off, and then turn it on again torestart.2. Charge the battery(ies) or replace it/them withrecharged battery(ies).3. Let the tool and battery(ies) cool down.If no improvement can be found by restoring protectionsystem, then contact your local Makita Service Center.Selecting the cutting actionThis tool can be operated with an orbital or a straightline (up and down) cutting action. The orbital cuttingaction thrusts the jig saw blade forward and increasescutting speed.1Fig.3► 1. Cutting action changing leverTo change the cutting action, turn the cutting actionchanging lever to the desired cutting action position.Refer to the table to select the appropriate cuttingaction.Position Cutting action Applications0 Straight line cuttingactionFor cutting mildsteel, stainlesssteel and plastics. For clean cuts inwood and plywood.I Small orbitalcutting actionFor cutting mildsteel, aluminumand hard wood.II Medium orbitalcutting actionFor cutting woodand plywood. For fast cutting inaluminum and mildsteel.III Large orbitalcutting actionFor fast cutting inwood and plywood.Switch actionCAUTION: Before installing the battery car-tridge into the tool, always check to see that theswitch trigger actuates properly and returns tothe “OFF” position when released. To turn on the tool, press the lock switch. The tool turnsinto the standby mode. To start the tool, pull the switchtrigger in the standby mode.
