Discoloration, deformation orcracks may result.To maintain product SAFETY and RELIABILITY,repairs, any other maintenance or adjustment shouldbe performed by Makita Authorized or Factory ServiceCenters, always using Makita replacement parts.Cleaning up chip dischargeopeningsClean the chip discharge openings regularly.Use a compressed air to clean the clogged chip dis-charge openings.Sharpening bladesFor conventional planer blades onlyAlways keep your planer blades sharp for the bestperformance. Use the sharpening holder (optionalaccessory) to refine the planer blade edges safely andeffectively.► Fig.57: 1. Sharpening holder 2. Blade1. Loosen the two wing nuts in the sharpeningholder.2. Slip the back ends of the planer blades into themounting slots as far as they will go with the cuttingedges to be sharpened facing downwards.► Fig.58: 1. Sharpening holder 2. Wing nut 3. Blades4. Cutting edges 5. Mounting slots 6. Bolthead3. Tighten the wing nuts to secure the planer bladesin place.4. Soak a dressing stone in water for 2 or 3 minutesbefore sharpening.5. Hold the sharpening holder firmly, and gentlyplace the cutting edges over the surface of the dressingstone.6.
