20By flipping the vise nut to the left, the vise is released, and rapidly moves in and out. To grip the workpiece, push the vise knob forward until the vise plate contactsthe workpiece and flip the vise nut to the right. Then turnthe vise knob clockwise to secure the workpiece. The maximum width of workpiece which can be securedby the horizontal vise is 200 mm.When installing the horizontal vise on the right side of thebase, also use the sub-fence R to secure the workpiecemore firmly. Refer to the “Sub-fence R” section describedon previously for installing the sub-fence R.CAUTION:• Always rotate the vice nut to the right fully when secur-ing the workpiece. Failure to do so may result in insuffi-cient securing of the workpiece. This could cause theworkpiece to be thrown, cause damage to the blade orcause the loss of control, which can result in PER-SONAL INJURY.Holders (Fig. 38)The holders can be installed on either side as a conve-nient means of holding workpieces horizontally. Slip theholder rods into the holes in the base and adjust theirlength according to the workpiece to be held. Thentighten the holders securely with the screws.CAUTION:• Always support long workpieces level with the top sur-face of the turn base for accurate cuts and to preventdangerous loss of control of the tool.Kerf block (optional accessory) (Fig. 39 & 40)CAUTION:• When using the kerf block, always cut at the samemiter angle.• When changing the miter angle, use other kerf blocks.• When performing bevel cuts, never use the kerf block.Failure to do so splits the block, causing a serious injuryto operator. When you use the kerf block at 90° cutting, you can splin-ter-free cut in workpiece on the side of the guide fence(height of the workpiece is up to 35 mm). Install the kerfblock onto the guide fence by means of the two screws.(Adjust the guide fence and the kerf block so that theycontact their faces. Then tighten the screws securely.)OPERATIONCAUTION:• Before use, be sure to release the handle from the low-ered position by pulling the stopper pin.• Make sure the blade is not contacting the workpiece, etc. before the switch is turned on.• Do not apply excessive pressure on the handle whencutting. Too much force may result in overload of themotor and/or decreased cutting efficiency. Push downhandle with only as much force as is necessary forsmooth cutting and without significant decrease inblade speed.• Gently press down the handle to perform the cut. If thehandle is pressed down with force or if lateral force isapplied, the blade will vibrate and leave a mark (sawmark) in the workpiece and the precision of the cut willbe impaired.• During a slide cut, gently push the carriage toward theguide fence without stopping. If the carriage movementis stopped during the cut, a mark will be left in the work-piece and the precision of the cut will be impaired.1. Press cutting (cutting small workpieces)(Fig. 41)Workpieces up to 91 mm high and 70 mm wide can becut in the following way.Push the carriage toward the guide fence fully andtighten the knob clockwise to secure the carriage. Securethe workpiece with the vise. Switch on the tool withoutthe blade making any contact and wait until the bladeattains full speed before lowering. Then gently lower thehandle to the fully lowered position to cut the workpiece. When the cut is completed, switch off the tool and WAITUNTIL THE BLADE HAS COME TO A COMPLETESTOP before returning the blade to its fully elevated posi-tion.CAUTION:• Firmly tighten the knob clockwise so that the carriagewill not move during operation. Insufficient tighteningmay cause unexpected kickback of the blade. Possibleserious PERSONAL INJURY may result.2. Slide (push) cutting (cutting wide workpieces)(Fig. 42)Loosen the knob counterclockwise so that the carriagecan slide freely. Secure the workpiece with the vise. Pullthe carriage toward you fully. Switch on the tool withoutthe blade making any contact and wait until the bladeattains full speed. Press down the handle and PUSHTHE CARRIAGE TOWARD THE GUIDE FENCE ANDTHROUGH THE WORKPIECE. When the cut is com-pleted, switch off the tool and WAIT UNTIL THE BLADEHAS COME TO A COMPLETE STOP before returningthe blade to its fully elevated position.CAUTION:• Whenever performing the slide cut, FIRST PULL THECARRIAGE TOWARD YOU FULLY and press down thehandle to the fully lowered position, then PUSH THECARRIAGE TOWARD THE GUIDE FENCE. NEVERSTART THE CUT WITH THE CARRIAGE NOT FULLYPULLED TOWARD YOU. If you perform the slide cutwithout pulling the carriage fully or if you perform theslide cut toward your direction, the blade may kickbackunexpectedly with the potential to cause serious PER-SONAL INJURY.• Never perform the slide cut with the handle locked inthe lowered position by pressing the stopper pin.• Never loosen the knob which secures the carriagewhile the blade is rotating. This may cause seriousinjury.3. Miter cuttingRefer to the previously covered “Adjusting the miterangle”.4. Bevel cut (Fig. 43)Loosen the lever and tilt the saw blade to set the bevelangle (Refer to the previously covered “Adjusting thebevel angle”). Be sure to retighten the lever firmly tosecure the selected bevel angle safely. Secure the work-piece with a vise. Make sure the carriage is pulled all theway back toward the operator. Switch on the tool withoutthe blade making any contact and wait until the bladeattains full speed. Then gently lower the handle to thefully lowered position while applying pressure in parallelwith the blade and PUSH THE CARRIAGE TOWARDTHE GUIDE FENCE TO CUT THE WORKPIECE. Whenthe cut is completed, switch off the tool and WAIT UNTILTHE BLADE HAS COME TO A COMPLETE STOPbefore returning the blade to its fully elevated position. |
