223. Lower the blade by lowering the handle and justcheck to see where the cutting line and the positionof the saw blade is. (Decide which position to cut onthe line of cut.)4. After decision the position to be cut, return the han-dle to the original position. Secure the workpiecewith the vertical vise without shifting the workpiecefrom the pre-checked position.5. Plug the tool and turn on the laser switch.6. Adjust the position of laser line as follows.The position of laser line can be changed as the movablerange of the adjusting screw for the laser is changed byturning two screws with a hex wrench. (The movablerange of laser line is factory adjusted within 1 mm fromthe side surface of blade.)To shift the laser line movable range further away fromthe side surface of blade, turn the two screws counter-clockwise after loosening the adjusting screw. Turn thesetwo screws clockwise to shift it closer to the side surfaceof the blade after loosening the adjusting screw.Refer to the section titled “Laser beam action” and adjustthe adjusting screw so that the cutting line on your work-piece is aligned with the laser line.NOTE:• Check the position of laser line regularly for accuracy.• Have the tool repaired by Makita authorized servicecenter for any failure on the laser unit.Cleaning of the lens for the laser light(Fig. 59 & 60)For model LS1214L onlyIf the lens for the laser light becomes dirty, or sawdustadheres to it in such a way that the laser line is no longereasily visible, unplug the saw and remove and clean thelens for the laser light carefully with a damp, soft cloth.Do not use solvents or any petroleum-based cleaners onthe lens.To remove the lens for the laser light, remove the sawblade before removing the lens according to the instruc-tions in the section titled “Installing or removing sawblade”.Loosen but do not remove the screw which secures thelens using a screwdriver.Pull out the lens as shown in the figure.NOTE:• If the lens does not come out, loosen the screw furtherand pull out the lens again without removing the screw.Replacing fluorescent tube (Fig. 61)For LS1214F onlyCAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before replacing the fluorescent tube.• Do not apply force, impact or scratch to a fluorescenttube, which can cause a glass of the fluorescent tube tobe broken resulting in a injury to you or your bystand-ers.• Leave the florescent tube for a while immediately aftera use of it and then replace it. If not, you may burnyourself.Remove screws, which secure Lamp box for the light.Pull out the Lamp box keeping pushing lightly the upperposition of it as illustrated on Fig. 61.Pull out the fluorescent tube and then replace it withMakita original new one.Replacing carbon brushes (Fig. 62 & 63)Remove and check the carbon brushes regularly.Replace when they wear down to the limit mark. Keepthe carbon brushes clean and free to slip in the holders.Both carbon brushes should be replaced at the sametime. Use only identical carbon brushes.Use a screwdriver to remove the brush holder caps. Takeout the worn carbon brushes, insert the new ones andsecure the brush holder caps.After use• After use, wipe off chips and dust adhering to the toolwith a cloth or the like. Keep the blade guard cleanaccording to the directions in the previously coveredsection titled “Blade guard”. Lubricate the sliding por-tions with machine oil to prevent rust.• When storing the tool, pull the carriage toward you fullyso that the slide pole is thoroughly inserted into the turnbase.To maintain product SAFETY and RELIABILITY, repairs,any other maintenance or adjustment should be per-formed by Makita Authorized Service Centers, alwaysusing Makita replacement parts.ACCESSORIESCAUTION:• These accessories or attachments are recommendedfor use with your Makita tool specified in this manual.The use of any other accessories or attachments mightpresent a risk of injury to persons.
