7STARTING12A- Hook the extension cord (A/1) in the strain reliever (A/2).3B- Connect the mains plug (B/3) with the extension powercord.5476C- Hold the front handle (C/4) with one hand, depressing thefront grip safety (C/5).- Grasp the rear handle (C/6) with the other hand and startthe trimmer with the rear handle grip safety (C/7).Caution: The trimmer will start immediately!Note: The hedge trimmer will start only when both grip safeties(C/5 and C/7) are depressed.Caution: If the hedge trimmer starts after acuating onlyone of the switches, do not work with the trimmer! Take thetrimmer to a MAKITA service center.To switch off: Release one or both grip safeties. The trimmerwill stop immediately.Checking the cutter brakeCheck the cutter brake each time before starting work!- Start the trimmer as described above.- Grasp the front handle firmly with one hand. Hold the rearhandle with the other hand.- Depress and then release the rear handle grip safety (C/7).The cutter should stop instantly.Important: If the cutter does not stop immediatelyduring this test, do not work with the trimmer! Take thetrimmer to a MAKITA service center.MAINTENANCETo ensure a long servicelife and to prevent any damage themaintenance work described in the following must be performedregularly. The product guarantee will be automaticallyinvalidated if this maintenance is not carried out regularly andaccording to the instructions.Caution:Always disconnect the power cord before doing any workon the hedge trimmer! Always wear protective gloves!Cleaning and care of the cutterCaution: Take special care when cleaning and maintaining thecutter (injury hazard).Check the cutter regularly for damage, and clean it with asuitable brush or cloth.If cutting performance should become unsatisfactory afterextensive use, contact a service center.Periodic care and maintenance instructionsBefore every use• Check the entire hedge trimmer for cracks and breakage.If there is any damage, immediately have the trimmerrepaired by a qualified service technician.• Check the functioning of the on/off switches.• The ventilation slots must be unobstructed.• Check the power cord. If there is any damage, have itreplaced at a qualified service center.After every use• Clean the entire trimmer.• Clean and lightly oil the cutter.Storage• Store the entire trimmer in a safe place in a dry room.Trouble shootingThe motor will not run:- No power supply, power cord defective, check fuse.The motor runs, but the cutter doesn´t move: Take the trimmerto a MAKITA service center.STOP
