InstantWave High Speed Access Point 25Making an Ethernet ConnectionChoose a PC on the Ethernet LAN to which the AP is connected and carry out thefollowing procedure:TCP/IP SetupThe following explains how to setup the Transmission Control Protocol/InternetProtocol (TCP/IP) in Windows 95/98 to enable an Ethernet connection of theAccess Point Management System (APMS) to an Access Point (AP). For moredetailed information on TCP/IP setup refer to the Windows 95/98 help files.step1. Double-click the My Computer iconstep2. In the My Computer group, double-click the Control Panel iconstep3. Double-click the Network icon in the Control Panel group. TheNetwork dialog box will open. On the Network dialog boxConfiguration card, if the network component "TCP/IP" is installed, goto step 7; otherwise, go to step 4 to add TCP/IPstep4. Click the Add button. The Select Network Component Type dialog boxwill open. The box will show four options: Client, Adapter, Protocol,Servicestep5. Select Protocol and click the Add button. The Select Network Protocoldialog box will openstep6. Select Microsoft in the left scrolling window, then select TCP/IP in theright, and click OK. You will be returned to the Network dialog boxstep7. On the Network dialog box Configuration card, select TCP/IP and thenclick Properties. The TCP/IP Properties dialog box will openstep8. On the IP Address card, select Specify an IP address and then key inyour IP address and subnet mask. Be sure that the IP address is in thesame domain as the AP’s (see Assigning a Network ID to the AP, page26) and the station’s subnet mask is the same as the APAssigning a Subnet Mask to the AP, page 27). Otherwise, the AP’ssubnet mask will prevent the station from accessing it (see ManagingInstantWave High Speed Configurations, page 29)step9. Click OK to go back through the dialog boxes. In the System SettingsChange dialog box, choose Yes to restart the computer and make thechanges effective
